When growing up with my Chinese cousins (who of course were not blood relations) the "older brother" was designated by one of the grown ups and it was whoever they thought was the most responsible child for the activity regardless of age or gender
Want to watch this in an Irish cinema so the "stick it up your bollocks" line is greeted with a big cheer like the Avengers assembling

It's increasingly obvious that Labour's strategy - call it Starmerism, Blue Labour, whatever - has got it badly wrong. It has alienated the party's core vote while failing to win over those leaning to Reform. There was no shortage of people warning them they were getting it wrong either.
Three years ago, Labour was polling in the 50s.
When Assad got ousted out of Syria the Express went with "EXCLUSIVE: Dictator's wife's million-pound London house" and it was a pebble-dashed semi in Acton
Anyway I hope Coogan's learned his lesson and isn't making any more films about subjects with contentious narratives... oh

The funny thing about this saga is that she was already famous, found the body and got him a state funeral and herself an MBE. Absolutely didn't need to make a libellous film to say "needless to say, I got the last laugh", but did it anyway, which ironically was a very Alan Partridge thing to do
Honestly love how Philippa Langley just about managed to keep her absolutely insane Ricardianism out of public life and it's finally coming out again. It's all a bit Captain Tom, really.

600 quid for 3 chairs? I think I paid 299 for my last office chair and I was worried I had massively underpaid and was getting a cheap piece of crap
One of the worst changes Britain last twenty years has been the ever-growing miserliness of our national character, the moneysavingexpertisation of an entire nation which is now convinced you can scrimp and save yourself to success
Editor: You get those photos of Chris Tarrant and Cookie Monster?
Photographer: Sure did boss, real fuckin respectful just like you asked
As November approaches, never forget that the BBC pinned a poppy on Cookie Monster.

"YPRES MAKE COOKIE MONSTER SAD. NO COOKIES AT SOMME."
Anyway, it's certainly a turnaround. Right-wing bigots for years have been insisting they are definitely not racist, don't even see race, don't care if people are black/brown/blue. But now it's wall-to-wall, mask-off, absolutely unhinged racism, in a relatively short space of time
Think one of the key things why adverts are such a thing with them is that people in ads are usually enjoying themselves and having a nice life; seeing non-white people be happy is something that drives your typical racist absolutely mad
Something I can't get over with the Sarah Pochin comments is that it's not just racist, it's also pathetic? Like oh wittle Sarah doesn't like the wittle adverts is it? Get a grip, you're a grown woman and member of parliament, stop being a snowflake and find a real problem to deal with
Yes, I guess so, and can only be broken out of with new builds that are bigger or delegating the deliveries to "dark" kitchens (a term I'm not a fan of btw). Both of which favour capital and big business over mom & pop joints
Also have realised this is creating a negative feedback loop - increase in delivery orders degrades the eat-in experience, so fewer people come to eat, so the restaurant become more dependent on the delivery orders...
Then we went to a different place, and after making our order, I was apologetically told starters would be late as the kitchen was so busy with delivery orders
Idle enshittification anecdata: restaurant we went to tonight got slammed with a string of Deliveroo orders just as we ordered, and they lost our order in the chaos, and were so slapdash we decided to cut our losses and leave
My favourite example of retroactively trying to make something off the record
Lol @ someone forgetting to pull the AWS ads during half-time of the football tonight, where the semiautomated offside isn't working because of the AWS downtime
Walking past this place in Forest Gate always made me double-take
Makes me really sad that Heist Podcast is on indefinite hiatus, it would have been a hell of an episode this week
Heard about the Louvre jewel heist and my first thought was “finally, some good old fashioned normal crime”
Need to know if they were as hard done by as they say, or if the food/service was actually just plain bad
us-east-1 going down seems to come earlier and earlier every year
So lots of people defend Starmer as a proper football fan but this is an argument against - fans all across Europe know that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans make Millwall look like the Quakers

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.
Attitudes to generative AI in C21st are like television in C20th - some people have become clearly addicted to it, while others will performatively declare they don't use it all
