The Let Our Vows Endure Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 was officially passed by Council today! DC residents will soon be able to marry again despite the federal government shutdown! #putaringonit 💍 💜

Today I introduced the Let Our Vows Endure Emergency Amendment Act of 2025. The legislation will amend District law on an emergency and temporary basis to allow the Mayor to issue marriage licenses during a federal shutdown.

Council will vote on the bill tomorrow during our legislative meeting.

Today the Committee on Health held its first public roundtable since reconvening after recess, covering appointments to the Health Benefit Exchange Authority Executive Board and the Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.

As we delve deeper into our first legislative meeting after recess, be reminded that on the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue there are two major bills being considered by the House. The District of Columbia Policing Protection Act and the District of Columbia Judicial Nominations Reform Act.

A news tidbit: This week the D.C. Council will vote on an emergency bill from @cmchenderson.bsky.social that will allow pharmacies to administer the COVID-19 vaccine without a doctor's prescription. Because of changes at the federal level, local pharmacies have been requiring a prescription.

As a resident of Ward 4, I am ecstatic to have participated in the ribbon cutting for Truesdell Elementary School today celebrating its modernization. I am happy for our students who will be able to learn in a building that sets them up for success.

Started the morning by welcoming participants to the Howard University Hospital Health Summit and Open House. Today physicians presented on topics such as pediatric vision screening and the importance of diversity in clinical research.
