All we are providing is transport, there is no programme as such.

You may want to visit one or more of the museums, go shopping (Christmas isn't far away!) or do some sightseeing. The time will be your own.

TRIP TO LONDON

There are still places available on our coach trip to London's Exhibition Road on Wednesday 29 October.

The coach will leave East Hill at 08:00 and should arrive London around 10:30. The coach will leave London for Colchester at 16:30.

We're afraid we don't know. Our source for the snippet was 'Godliness and Governance in Tudor Colchester' by Laquita M Higgs Pg 273. We don't have the book to hand to check if it has further details or a reference for the original return.

#OnThisDay - 12 October 1577, a return from #Colchester to the Privy Council listed the number of establishments that provided drink and hospitality.

At that time, the town had 9 taverns that sold drink including wine but did not take in lodgers, 5 inns and 38 alehouses.

#OnThisDay - 10 October 1970, Castle Methodist Church in Maidenburgh Street was opened.

There had been an earlier Methodist church on part of the site but the immediate predecessor church was in Culver Street.

#OnThisDay - 9 October 1995, to mark the 30th Anniversary of the @ColCivicSociety, a new tablet was fixed to the grave of Jacob Ringer in St Martin's Churchyard.

Jacob, a prosperous #Colchester bays-maker died in 1680.

#OnThisDay - 8 October 1776, Timothy Walford a #Colchester Furniture Maker, married Elizabeth Daniel of St Botolph's Parish.

His substantial business traded from premises in the High Street and later from 19 Head Street.

Congratulations if you recognised this as an oval date panel on the front of numbers 1 & 2 Scheregate. Both are grade ll listed C17 timber-framed and plastered with two storeys, attics and cellars and now with modern ground floor shop fronts.
