True, and Kat is too young by about 10 years. But this was a hypothetical scenario so I figured I'd mention them anyway.

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

I think there is a clear, factual, historical chain of events which establishes that attitudes like this are what got us into this situation.

No, we are not going to have to forgive. We are going to need trials, for hundreds to thousands of people.

Nuremberg, not Ford pardoning Nixon.
heatheranneford.bsky.social
I think we are going to have to forgive. For our own survival.

Zohran Mamdani and Kat Abughazaleh both seem like they could have what it takes, but neither have held any federal positions thus far where it might be easier to see how 'cutthroat' they'd really be. Agree with others that Elizabeth Warren is another possibility.

Makes sense, thanks! Unlike that other guy (whom I’ve already blocked), I enjoy learning more about this stuff 👍

I'm definitely not a rhetorician, but would it be reasonable to argue that "you're an anti-intellectual hack" might not even rise to the level of an ad hominem, if you're making that statement based on observed behavior?

I don't know anything about Machado, really, but I had assumed that she was the opposite of Trump in a lot of ways, just based on who she is.

It sounds like she fully supports the fascists including the US doing extralegal murder, so yeah, this isn't really a whole lot better than Trump winning.

Collecting these posts like Pokémon cards.

Sigh.

Machado issues her first statement since being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and makes a thinly-veiled appeal to Trump for US intervention in Venezuela:

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.
We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.
I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!

Earlier in the job listing it talks about humor being a huge part of the job, so the most charitable interpretation I can think of is that they're trying to be funny. But it's not funny.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I hope they're investigated, especially for the "guaranteed girlfriend/boyfriend" bit. I'd say that I hope their funding gets pulled, but since the bulk of it is from Andreessen Horowitz, I'm sure their investors are cheering this on and throwing more money at them.

Mediocre hourly wage for someone in SF with these skills ✅
Human trafficking (?!) ✅

If they're willing to openly admit this much horrible shit in their public job listings, I don't even want to know what goes on behind the scenes.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I ran across this job listing from a company called Cluely, and holy shit.

In the last 6 months, Andreessen Horowitz, Abstract Ventures, and Susa Ventures have invested just over $20M in this company.

Making employees pay for company equipment ✅
Almost double a normal work week ✅
"Influencers" ✅
You must be a strong generalist who can make things happen. If you have an idea, you will often not have a production assistant to help you make it happen.
If you want to make a podcast, it'll be on you to create the scene, buy the props, set up the lighting, buy the microphones, and everything in between.
You must also be comfortable working 12 hours a day 6 days a week. This will likely be the most intense job of your life.
You will live a block away from the office and spend most, if not all, of your waking hours working with a young and energetic team.
In return, you get
• 150k-200k cash salary + equity
• Free housing
• Free food
• To work at an extremely fast moving early stage tech startup
• To get connected with huge influencers
• A guaranteed girlfriend/boyfriend after 1 year

I have a feeling the answer is that they don't have a lawyer, or at least didn't consult one before taking any of these actions. It's clearly amateur hour over there.

The post you're quoting is 100% not an ad hominem, Brett. I'm not sure if you've muted me, just haven't seen my posts, or are purposely being willfully ignorant.

typically you don't receive play by plays of what a grand jury is doing

Per Fox News, a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia is currently weighing whether to charge NY AG Letitia James with mortgage fraud.

If you are "Creating the future of science and society" as your profile says, I weep for my kids.

What? Is this some kind of Uno Reverse meta-troll now?

Do you honestly believe that what you've posted thus far shows that both you and ChatGPT understand what an ad hominem is better than she does? A simple yes/no answer is fine (and preferred to avoid further confusion on my part)

Hamilton: “The president’s power is unreviewable.”

This is a great ruling. How can we ensure that it's enforced and that the agents who will inevitably ignore it, as well as their entire chain of command, are held accountable for their actions?

NEWS: Today, a judge banned federal agents from using riot control weapons against reporters in Chicago.

It comes after 4 of our journalists were tear-gassed and shot w/ pepper-spray bullets and our nonprofit newsroom @blockclubchi.bsky.social and others sued.

Yes! I have sent links to that very page to people in the past. The most common response I get, if I get any at all, is some variant of "wow that's too long, I'm not reading it" 😫
colinniloc.bsky.social
Note that this is spelled out in the Definition section in the ChatGPT screenshot you posted. Even if I say something that would be clearly considered abusive, like "well, it's clear from this thread that you know fuck-all about conflicts of interest," that STILL isn't an ad hominem.
colinniloc.bsky.social
Being too quick to jump to "Ad hominem! I win!" is itself a fallacy, sometimes called the ad hominem fallacy fallacy. An ad hominem has to be devoid of any attempt to argue with the facts at hand, and instead _solely_ be attacking your personal character.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I would also say that based on your posts thus far, it's likely that you never fully read and understood the ChatGPT ad hominem explanation that you were so quick to post. I might be wrong! But this isn't an ad hominem either.
