I have a feeling the answer is that they don't have a lawyer, or at least didn't consult one before taking any of these actions. It's clearly amateur hour over there.

The post you're quoting is 100% not an ad hominem, Brett. I'm not sure if you've muted me, just haven't seen my posts, or are purposely being willfully ignorant.

typically you don't receive play by plays of what a grand jury is doing

Per Fox News, a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia is currently weighing whether to charge NY AG Letitia James with mortgage fraud.

If you are "Creating the future of science and society" as your profile says, I weep for my kids.

What? Is this some kind of Uno Reverse meta-troll now?

Do you honestly believe that what you've posted thus far shows that both you and ChatGPT understand what an ad hominem is better than she does? A simple yes/no answer is fine (and preferred to avoid further confusion on my part)

Hamilton: “The president’s power is unreviewable.”

This is a great ruling. How can we ensure that it's enforced and that the agents who will inevitably ignore it, as well as their entire chain of command, are held accountable for their actions?

NEWS: Today, a judge banned federal agents from using riot control weapons against reporters in Chicago.

It comes after 4 of our journalists were tear-gassed and shot w/ pepper-spray bullets and our nonprofit newsroom @blockclubchi.bsky.social and others sued.

This judgement protects us all:

Yes! I have sent links to that very page to people in the past. The most common response I get, if I get any at all, is some variant of "wow that's too long, I'm not reading it" 😫
colinniloc.bsky.social
Note that this is spelled out in the Definition section in the ChatGPT screenshot you posted. Even if I say something that would be clearly considered abusive, like "well, it's clear from this thread that you know fuck-all about conflicts of interest," that STILL isn't an ad hominem.
colinniloc.bsky.social
Being too quick to jump to "Ad hominem! I win!" is itself a fallacy, sometimes called the ad hominem fallacy fallacy. An ad hominem has to be devoid of any attempt to argue with the facts at hand, and instead _solely_ be attacking your personal character.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I would also say that based on your posts thus far, it's likely that you never fully read and understood the ChatGPT ad hominem explanation that you were so quick to post. I might be wrong! But this isn't an ad hominem either.
colinniloc.bsky.social
Giving you the benefit of the doubt: I think @olivia.science is saying that based on the words that you yourself have posted in this thread, it is likely that you don't understand the difference between "interest" and "conflict of interest." I agree with this assessment, and it's not an ad hominem.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I scrolled through that whole thread and was really expecting to find an "OK, we hear you, we're sorry, and here's what we're going to do" type of statement from the CEO. Nope. WTF.
colinniloc.bsky.social
Thanks, I wasn’t able to dig this up with a quick google. Yikes…

Oh no... what happened with Framework? I've wanted one for a while :(

The federal government under Stephen Miller is explicitly trying to start a civil war.

That is my statement.

If these “officers” had a warrant or other legal reason for arresting this man, the video wouldn’t have ended this way. This proves they are just kidnapping random people off the street. These people are a danger to the public and should be arrested and charged.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

There is a simple and basic truth here which is that this is not how legitimate law enforcement agencies in a democratic nation state behave.

It’s simple and basic, so much so that it bears repeating again and again lest it slip away through the open Overton window.

These “agents” like doing this. They want to do this because it’s a legal way to feed their worst compulsions.

And they’ve been given full authority to do it - verbatim - by Stephen Miller and President Trump.

Breaking news: ICE stops family at gunpoint—smash car window on top of newborn baby.

"I was screaming that there was a baby. But they didn’t care," cried mother.

“I covered my baby with my body—I was so scared he was going to be hurt because glass was landing on him."

This means that, for example, if you run your own relay, most users are ultimately going to be viewing the content served from that relay via the Bluesky app view. Which means that they will be subject to Bluesky's questionable and inconsistent moderation policies.
colinniloc.bsky.social
I am specifically referring to the relay and the app view. I understand that these can *technically* be decentralized, but the way the pieces of the system work together mean that Bluesky is always to control the single most popular relay and app view for the vast majority of users.
colinniloc.bsky.social
Note that you could work on changing those architectural decisions! And if you solved those problems, then you'd be right to talk about how you can just go host your own services. But it's convenient for Bluesky to keep it as is, so you won't.
