This reminds me that the most I've ever been burned by an otherwise good walkthrough is Parasite Eve. yeah it told me where all the items were. but all the boss guides may as well have just said "good luck!"

The weirdest thing about the Elvira games is how bad all the walkthroughs are. They either forget to tell you certain things and one author was mad about having to play Elvira's boyfriend in the second game, based on her "type" from the first movie! Come on, we gotta focus guy, it's a walkthrough.

if it's still not overwritten, play the sound file with the appropriate name. if it doesn't exist, play the generic voice grunt associated with whatever portrait the character currently has set.

i assume this is actually how it works considering that bit of code seems to be buried in the EXE.

which sound file? well, first make sure the event script doesn't override it with a specific sound. if it does, play that. if it doesn't, make sure this one file doesn't tell us to play this other sound file whenever we try to play the one that should be played. if it does, play that one instead.

my assumptions were proven false when I realized there were voice clips that, by all accounts, should absolutely not play. but they do.

that column may as well be a boolean value as far as i can tell. is it blank? don't play anything. is it not blank? play a sound file.

very funny that, in my attempts to find shortcuts to find unused voice clips in hundred line that don't involve me going through them all individually, i thought i had figured out what determines the sound files the game plays. I thought it was this one column in the CSV files it uses for messages.
