Fellow Georgians: here's a chance for a small number of voters to have an outsized impact on November 4. Public Service Commission elections - boring but important! as described in the linked video.

@austinlouisray.bsky.social this seems like the sort of thing you might care to signal boost 🫡

what you said about turtles in the wild is “just a fact”, but your need to comment something so pessimistic & nihilistic about a cute video is what’s weird

The only reason they make it is because some humans care enough to make sure enough artificial lights are off in the surrounding area that they can follow the moon to the water’s edge.

What a weird thing to say for no reason my guy. just be happy the babies lived.

anyone else remember when this was considered a burn so deep that it was run for a week on news channels?

My dad still remembers the number for UPS in Arlington TX from 1998 but he’s unsure about my & my sister’s birthdays half the time.

Yeah, even on the supply/buyer side it’s hard to tell which certifications are legit (ethical factories, sustainable products) vs which are some half-ass green label slapped on anything for a fee

Even traveling to visit factories can be misleading if they only show you the “nice” factory

More than a decade ago, I sat down with @marcmaron.bsky.social in his garage to tape something new called a podcast. This time, he came to me to record his last episode.

We talked about the power of conviction, decency in an age of division, and the true story of America.

Yes! come on by sometime. Social Space, right next door to Ladybird in O4W on the Eastside Beltline.

That’s amazing, you’ll have to let me know where they are too!
cooperbarrett.bsky.social
That’s great though! at the end of the day they found you and you found them and they’ll probably make that sale to you.

There’s so many things about that (connecting online to brands you would’ve never known about) that are good. Then there’s all the other noise from brands with more money
cooperbarrett.bsky.social
that’s the hard part; creating that trust is also expensive. It’s necessary to get customers to find you etc. it’s worth the investment if you find your audience, but it’s not a given due to the ever-changing algorithms of our tech overlords.

It’s possible but it’s hard and costs a lot to learn
cooperbarrett.bsky.social
I get that, I would too in certain instances, but tbh I don’t know if I would’ve bought my own shirt. I wanna know its quality, but I also don’t buy clothing often so I usually only spend on brands I know. That shirt cost $26 to make. I would’ve sold it for $50, but had to sell for $100 bc of costs.
cooperbarrett.bsky.social
But this is what’s necessary now. Normal stores take at least 40%, a store I was in, in NYC, charged $1200 for 6mo up front plus 40% of sales to sell there. High foot traffic, but caused me to raise prices from $50 to $100 for a (organic cotton) t-shirt for a brand no one knew.

Is to have a consignment shop essentially. Local clothing, art, homegoods, etc. The clothing vendors pay a flat rate for the space they want plus 20% of sales. The goal (not there yet) is to have enough vendors paying that overhead is covered. Then I take a section for myself/my brand.

So I own I brick & mortar store in Atlanta on the Beltline (a big commercial greenway that will eventually run all the way around the city)

My solution to this problem, as a sustainable clothing brand owner that only upcycles or buys ready-made blanks from people like Everybody World…
