This weekend 100+ people submitted their independent website to the powRSS platform.

The IndieWeb community continues to support each other in a mission to make the open web more accessible.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their site and believes in a democratic web for us all.

It’s not you! It’s the domain proxy for bear blog as a whole. I’m kinda bummed out because my post was #1 on discover and no one can’t read it 🥲

domain-proxy.bearblog.dev isn’t responding to requests
The best parts of the internet were never viral, they were personal.

If you have a blog please consider adding it to powRSS to make those corners visible again.

It seems so rude and careless to make me, a person with thoughts, ideas, humor, contradictions and life experience to read something spit out by the equivalent of a lexical bingo machine because you were too lazy to write it yourself.

Yes it is! For easy blogging people usually go with Bear Blog or Pika. Surprisingly WordPress is still pretty good also, especially if you can self-host it.

But for all web-based, Bear is probably easiest.

On powRSS.com you can see what most blogs are using nowadays
If you ever want to browse around for blogs, please check out powRSS.com! It's an aggregator that constantly receives new submissions. There's a few of us working hard to keep the old school personal website / blogs alive :-)
Some of us are trying hard to revive them under the "indieweb" umbrella. I'm the creator of a blog aggregator called powRSS if you ever want to browse around for indie blogs :-)

The Blogging Years a Rumination by Darice.

"I followed tons of personal blogs, people who wrote about regular life stuff, music, books, the web. I blogged too back then, I have like 500 old posts set on private...

The blog years were awesome, I still miss the old internet."
Yes please 🙏
let’s all go back to using rss feeds
We are trying to make that happen over on the Indieweb. We're a small community but we have projects like powRSS which help in connecting blog authors to others via RSS.
This is the way!! Don't hesitate to submit your blog to powRSS for more reach. We're always looking for new blogs.
If you have a blog join us on powRSS! That's precisely what we are trying to do, and we need more artists and creatives.
There's a few of us (currently 200+ blogs indexed) over on powRSS. You're welcome to check it out! There's a lot of stuff like this under the Indieweb umbrella :-)
Coming back to this for a moment.
I keep thinking about how awful the owners of all these social media sites are, & how nifty it would be if more of us went back to having our own little bloggy blogs & RSS feeds.

A sort of web anarchy.

Also, bring back letter-writing & pen pals.
I built my blog from scratch using old school Notepad + GitHub. It was fun! But it sucks that robots.txt no longer protects sites from bots.
Some thoughts on joining the #IndieWeb

“We must make software that lives on a server but has a welcoming interface and piques people’s curiosity, respects privacy and dignity, and connects us to the World Wide Web.”

Bluesky friends,

I’ve updated powRSS to sport more of a retro look and added a few new features to make discovering independent blogs easier and more fun.

I’d love it if you took a look 😁

All of us developing software for the #indieweb need to give this a read.

Hamish points out pitfalls in large scale projects and shows the shortcomings of not having a grassroots approach to economic sustainability.

Great read.
By focusing, we can make a tangible difference in the #openweb space and reduce the noise of pointless #techchurn that currently wastes time, focus and resources. The pushing of doomed projects hamishcampbell.com/the-pushing-...

Haha they are and we’re making it more of a thing on powRSS! It’s a public feed aggregator to make the open web discoverable. Over on Mastodon one of my posts went viral so I ended up receiving hundreds of submissions. I’m slowly adding people’s blogs one by one to keep the feed clean, check it out!

While the main reason behind my tech blog posts is to help educate folks who may have encountered the same issues that I have with Technology XYZ, it's also self-serving. Can't tell you how many times I've referred to my old posts to refresh my memory on how to do The Thing.
Perfect take re: Stanley Cup finals LOL

"Is there a hunger for a return to the blogosphere?"

There definitely is!! The community brewing with powRSS is proof of that. I started it last Thursday and close to 100 people have submitted their blogs 😁

It's an aggregator of independent websites.
