For me it was
Quilts - handmade, maybe knitted/crocheted, may or may not cover the whole bed
Bedspreads - a machine-made quilt that covered the whole bed, no stuffing
Comforter - stuffed bedspread
Didn't know what a duvet was til I was in my 30s

This is how I learned “bedspread” is country.

We said quilt, bedspread, & comforter growing up. I did not hear about duvets until I was grown, & I still don’t really understand them LOL.
