Carers Allowance is an insulting pittance as it is and the rules around it are needlessly draconian. To come after folk in these difficult circumstances is outrageous.

this is also a symptom of the bad, bitter taste the state suffers from. they pull Black drivers over because the 17 plate BMW looks 'suspicious' lol. It tells you something about their low aspirations and standards. Their definition of luxury is very mid

Indeed. We don't talk enough about wages and cost of living. And this is why we need a UBI
Some thoughts on income tax: People who don’t consider themselves particularly high earners - they’re middle class, maybe earning less than their peers - may feel fleeced by taxation because every pay rise is negligible impact.

Has no one in the BBC heard of the Streisand effect?

Did everyone think, "oh, Rutger Bregman, he'll be cool with this"?
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

I will now refer to him exclusively as "The Most Openly Corrupt President in American History". I do not care for my character account. You may continue to read my opinions in the thread

In a comedy writers room you have to know SO MUCH about what white men ages 36-65 think is PEAK COMEDY that I’m not surprised by this list at all. You must understand the Spaceballs references, you must pretend you are not afraid when you’re shown Sam Kinison’s angry shark eyes.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

My theory is that in the left, progressive global majority politicians make liberal white politicians feel like they're part of the problem. And no one likes that, especially when they recycle and eat poppadoms. So they are marginalised whilst the bootlickers rise to the top
