"Are we still capable of talking to each other," asks the woman hired by billionaires whose economic model is predicated on fomenting polarization to install an actual criminal who dismantles the regulatory state that kept them from fully extracting what remaining wealth there was from the lower 99%

Tonight the December Comfort Watches gets nostalgic with Pleasantville, a movie which ironically shows how nostalgia isn't all it's cracked up to be:

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Seventeen: Pleasantville
Nostalgia is a trap. The people who indulge in it do so with selective memory, either their own or someone else’s. When I was a kid in the 80s, people looked back yearningly at the 50s as a s…

On one hand, this is a shocking upheaval of broadcast norms. On the other hand, I was watching YouTube less than an hour ago, but I can't tell you the last time I watched anything on our local ABC affiliate.

I mean, my version of "Sinners" would have been an semi-autobiographical tale of confused middle-aged white men making atrocious burritos, so perhaps it's for the best Mr. Coogler got there first
Are you sure you don't want to cry that Ryan Coogler stole Your Spot?

It's been my personal anecdotal experience that people who have gone no contact with a parent usually have done so for good reason, and that re-establishing contact on the parent's terms would do both parties more harm than good.

Christopher Moore has joked about how many of his books have been optioned while never getting developed. Something about how you might make more money from renewed options than you'd end up making from a film.

I wrote an episode of Love Death + Robots about that. It won an Emmy!

Actually there's a good chance of that, since I have a lot of stuff available, and I have a reasonably good reputation in LA - because, among other things, I don't piss and moan about how unfair everything is for me. I thank them for trying and then keep connections open for other opportunities.
They will be back.

A property of mine just went out of option, and I want you all to know it happened not because Hollywood is woke and a white dude can't get a fair shake but because selling anything in LA is a roll of the fucking dice and sometimes things just don't happen so you put on your big kid pants and deal

Behold, if you will, the...astonishing...contract from Shadow Light Press. A rolling 10-year term...payment on profit (but only after costs are recouped)...appropriation of the author's universe if they can't continue the series...and more www.reddit.com/r/Progressio...

It's very important we all go back to Twitter, a website as popular with young people as chlamydia.
Teens turn to a variety of online platforms, but YouTube continues to stand out. Roughly nine-in-ten teens report ever using it. TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat are the next most widely used platforms.

YES THIS

also FOMO goes right out the window, as in, sure, I could go out to all the hot spots OR I could lie here in bed with my iPad watching @dropout.tv with at least one cat dozing alongside, hmmmm, I guess the cool kids will just have to have fun without me
The best thing about middle age is not giving one single solitary fuck about being cool anymore.

My advice: Like what you like and don't worry about anyone who tells you it's cringe. Life's short and the world's on fire, and as long as you're not hurting other people, you're fine. I mean, I still like U2, too! I don't care who knows it. If other people don't like that, that's a them problem.
I love U2. I feel like I could have glided along, enjoying them, if it wasn’t for that damned internet. Now I am on the defensive or lying low with my fandom. That’s happening somewhat now with Taylor Swift. She’s the biggest star in the world but the backlash has begun. “Mom pop”?

Krissy and I stopped giving each other holiday gifts a long time ago because a) it became difficult to think of things either of us wanted, b) when we do think of things, we give them then rather than waiting for the holidays. I also tell people not to get me gifts because I buy myself what I want.
You kid but, for the first time in almost 30 years of marriage, I have no good ideas for her. Guess we’ll see if “you don’t have to get me anything,” is a euphemism or not. (I have gotten her a bunch of books which will be welcomed but no quirky just for you gift)
