We'd be lying to ourselves if scenarios (useful fictions) don't ultimately become the means by which people make their reality. You want them to be reasonable approximations to guide thinking when presented with a real-world event or trend. However, most leaders tend to devolve into recognitional<

Between the 25th Ammendment and a straight up impeachment, there is a point when all of those defenders of the "unitary and plenary executive" need to realize as much as they love that idea, their first test of that authority was given to a monkey w/ a blow torch in one hand and an AK in the other.

A reminder (from my 2019 @theatlantic.com reporting) that as military families go without pay this shutdown, many of them are single-paycheck households relying on the servicemember's income because the spouses have been pushed out of the workforce.

I'm not against the right of people to peacefully assemble and organize with like minded people. Great movements have gone that way. But parties man...people need to know that there are other ways. Parties are definitely not a suicide pact nor are they in the Constitution...as a way to frame this.

It's going to happen...as they probably know they are going to loses VA and MD in the next two elections.

Followed by other reports that there may be 200 personnel assigned to civil reconstruction in Israel proper. Sounds to me like an big CMOCC designed to stabilize things so they can hand off occupation and building to the zoning commission called Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA)

Counter-argument: Impeachment works just fine. The people responsible for enacting it only have a partisan compass not a moral compass, and therein it fails. We elect representatives who falter when the task is required & cannot police their own when they must for the cause of our nation over party.

MAGA: Laundry list of illegal and unconstitutional activities as well as not performing the basics of government.
Democrats: We need ACA subsidies to endure before annual open enrollment, preferably made permanent.
MAGA: You're extremists!

I wish/hope the argument for federal workers (uniformed & not) goes like this: "I signed a contract with the government. I provide services, they pay me. They failed their part. Fine, I'm not working so I'm protesting." MAGA cannot afford Bonus Marchers 2 so they paint legit grievance as "antifa".

Not only is this despeerate misdirection on the #NoKings rally, but its clear they are trying to link their willingness to disrupt government & fire workers to a "they" and agitate their followers to counter-protest. This is a dog whistle version of "stand back and stand by" all over again.

Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, I'm a very patient guy, but I've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ... "

In recent weeks, the employees have been directed to transfer from various DHS agencies (including CISA, FEMA, TSA. & U.S. Coast Guard) to other ones (including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Protective Service, and Customs and Border Protection).

I have to wince every time I think about the fact that the U.S. barely exerted any pressure while continuing to send arms and letting Netanyahu feel untouchable. Big Orange wants a Nobel for helping put out a fire we didn’t start but kept supplying matches and kindling. There are other agendas here.

Stupid and dangerous are not incompatible arrangements. That's what you get from people who think a president has "plenary powers".

Slavery? I don't think it ever existed.
We have a clause in the Constitution that addresses it specific to voting and representation.
Not in my version we don't.

Governments subsidize things for many reasons but not only and because "they are not working". He may want to look at how we've used susidies to preserve American industry and balance foreign competition while lowering costs for consumers. He thinks tariffs do that; because bad at math and policy.

SCOTUS needs to be more bound by laws related to misconduct which creates a better framework for impeachment and removal. On point 4, I have no issue with that. I believe in publicly funded elections (see my condition on point 1) for every individual (not party) that qualifies to run.
ctreese2.bsky.social
On point 2, there are already required qualifications in law for many positions, they just choose to waive them under "the President should have the team they want." I believe in other parties, and we have them. What we have are barriers to participation by granting parties say in election process.

SBIR is broken. Doesn't overcome the valley of death, doesn't result in small business growth to introduce competition, and plays at innovation theater. I'm not against some of these ideas especially up an out since applications require a commercial use case too.

People discuss how things may have to be reconciled in America if we have the chance to recover the system from the perverse actions taking place. The first order is for public officials to actually execute the tasks as Constitutional officers that they demured last time. It has to be done.

So this is funny.
The administration just issued a rule slashing foreign agricultural worker wages. And to justify it, in a public filing, Trump's Labor Department alleges that Trump's immigration enforcement has devastated the Ag workforce and caused a "risk of supply shock-induced food shortages."
Trump Labor Department Says His Immigration Raids Are Causing a Food Crisis
In a filing in the Federal Register, the Labor Department argues there are “immediate dangers to the American food supply” due to a lack of migrant agricultural workers.
