As much as I am an advocate for the customer in regards to what they receive when they spend money, I think it’s plenty fine for developers to fight back against people that want to police how they express themselves. Way to go!

Do what you need to do! Your content is well done and valuable and I’m sorry you didn’t feel well compensated with whatever Youtube’s scheme is. Full time job and full time Dad. I can relate that sometimes the art side doesn’t feel worth it’s stress.

Content hype cycle made me really cynical

- YO NEW GAME LOOKS SICK?!
- I PLAYED NEW GAME!!
- Ok new game... I have concerns
- New game ROCKS!
- New Game has issues.. we need to talk...
- New game is dead if dev doesn't addess X and Y
- Game is dead

This is why in End's Reach, all the tutorial popups are optional, you can just choose to walk by them.. it was by design because not every user needs the help.

When I was learning UX in the 2000s I was told a really simply rule:

"Never wrestle control away from the user for any reason."

Today's UX is opening things, changing what text box I'm typing into, asking me to do things, resizing while I try to click on things...

Haha. For brevity, I look at the GameSpy example. We should have learned a lot of lessons there. Most of those games still worked in some form after the service nosedived. I'm fine with games having these online components but I believe they should be walled off enough to be replaceable.

I guess it's a disagreement forever then.

I ask one question for these businesses: Separate from the game itself, do I receive good value? A game doesn't deserve money simply because it's fun. People who support SKG are asking for gaming to return to a worthy value proposition.

It's about consumer protections. Consumer protections don't need to take into consideration the ease of operation for businesses or what kind of technical decisions drive their projects. This is the only console generation where games are expected to not work shortly after being sold.
