I have never in my 30+ years of writing fanfic received SO MANY long, thoughtful, kind comments on a piece of writing.

(I am so glad I stuck with it to a good stopping point and did not give up when it got hard and frustrating. I'm so glad it's resonating with people.)

I've been putting it off bc I did not want it to be over, but - the end! "but this is an explosion" is 23/23. only took me 20 months. the writing itself was fast once i made it through the emotions, etc etc, art, bla bla.

Someone commented on a chapter of 'but this is an explosion' to ask about Wei Ying's financial advice. That's it, that was the comment, what does this financial advice mean.

Being a book editor was extremely interesting and I wouldn't trade the experience (but I also would definitely not recommend that path to anyone ever). It is a great career to daydream about though 😂

I do agree it is very prevalent among fic writers who mostly write for fun and sidestep a lot of craft, but!!! You are definitely giving pro book writers a little too much credit; even twenty years ago a lot of them weren't very knowledgeable about craft and instead kind of went by vibes. 😂

(Approximate a lifetime ago I was a pro book editor, and having to coach my authors about not dropping from close third into omniscient in order to show what all the other characters were thinking when the mc misunderstand, or describing things the char couldn't see &c, was like 40% of my editing.)

I run into this s lot and it always strikes me as a function of thinking everything is like TV or movies, where most of the time things are shown to the viewer in tiny chunks, from an omniscient pov, and the viewer can literally see when a character is lying, etc. Flattening of media etc. Hate it.
