Billy Bragg - Life's a riot with Spy vs Spy.

Can I justify a 16 minute album in my top 5? I'm sorely tempted.
Just a guy with a guitar, something to say, and literally nothing else. In an era where everything was big, a magnificent alternative.

Phil Collins - Face Value

Don't think this will make my top 5 but it is a very good mature progressive pop album and it is amazing how many of them Collins churned out in this 80s period.

ABC - The Lexicon of Love

One of Yorkshire's great albums! This is a classic example of knowing your style (Orchestra meets synth pop) and being able to apply consistently it to a great set of tracks.

Strong contender.

Loretta Lynn - Don't come home a drinkin' (with lovin' on your mind)

I don't like a lot of country, but this is actually quite good. Strong views, a melodic voice and just enough musical variety to keep it interesting, unlike most country.

R.E.M - Murmur

Talk about a band arriving fully formed. Yes they would experiment further with their sound, but this is an exceptional first effort. Seemingly no filler, this is 12 quality tracks.

Remixes of one of my favourite albums of recent years.
A little hit and miss. Some are just generic dance remixes but the ones that take advantage of the already eclectic musical style of the original are great.

Half century and it is a bit of a find.

Fiona Apple - Tidal

Very much enjoyed this. Nice mix of styles. Some is route one piano pop but there are elements of PJ Harvey experimentals, Tori Amos quirkiness, and Alanis Morrisette sass.

Bob Dylan - Blood on the tracks.

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest Dylan fan. He's had some great songs, but I often find I like them in isolation, rather than a fully body of work or even full album.
This one is a high point though.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

Has always felt like a genre defining album. The Chili Peppers weren't the only band fusing rock and funk, Faith No More being a good example, but with this album the recipe reached its zenith.
