Ten Tigers hitters batted at least 10 times in the postseason. Nine of them averaged at least one strikeout per game.

The only exception? Javier Báez only struck out three times in eight games.

In eight playoff games, the Tigers hit .207/.281/.317 and averaged 3.6 runs per game.

The pitching staff had a 2.91 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings. How much more can you ask?

Kerry Carpenter went 4-5. The rest of the offense went 4-47. Torres, Greene, Torkelson and Keith went 0-23 with 10 strikeouts.

The offense failed them again when they needed it the most.

I've covered the Tigers for 36 seasons, which means I've gotten to cover three Hall of Fame starting pitchers in Detroit.

Tarik Skubal is at a level Jack Morris never approached. He's close to JV and Max at their best, but they threw more innings.

A.J. Hinch had Kerry Carpenter hitting leadoff for one reason - he knew it would limit George Kirby to 18 hitters.

Carpenter is 7-13 with five homers against Kirby. Dan Wilson was never going to let him hit there, which meant Gabe Speier was coming in. That at-bat was set up long before the game.

My dad was bedridden for much of his early life. His main sources of entertainment were listening to the Packers on Milwaukee radio and the Canadiens on Hockey Night in Canada.

This month marks 20 years since he passed away, but covering the Packers or Canadiens will always be special.
