Bruno was like Spinoza except a couple of hundred years earlier.

Well don’t disturb the pond witch goes without saying.

Beautiful spot that. My daughter lives nearby.

So a climate gamble on Patagonia is better than an archaeon bet on heat vents

As I go into spinal surgery, I am reading Katabasis, by R.F. Kuang, about two grad students in analytical magik (a form of epidemiology); they are going to hell to rescue their advisor so he can sign off on their theses, so they can graduate. Glad I already signed off on all mine.

Never paint bricks or wood. That’s a crime. A kitchen you can turn around in with more than one person. Cupboards you don’t have to get down on your knees to open. Very inefficient use of spaces, lots of corners, extra stairs between floors. Much more interesting than “efficient” places.

Now I need to read Small Ceremonies by Kyle Edwards, GG winner for fiction. She grew up just across the river from me (we were in North Kildonan, the settler part of North Winnipeg). That’s in my new novel, The Incompleat Communist.

Congratulations to Claire Cameron for GG award for nonfiction. How to Survive a Bear Attack is a brilliant book…not just about bears and people.

In Canada, we’re all vaguely left or middle.

My mother said we wren’t poor. We just didn’t have much money. I was happy to grow up in that ambiguous middle. Had to work extra jobs to pay for uni. But could go to uni. Had fun.

Reuters on the hurricane: "The timing could not be worse for the communist-run Caribbean island. “ This annoys me. For no other country do they say Republican-run or Libertarian-run or corporate-run or Fascist-run…
