Very refreshing to see a left wing politician not treat this question like some kind of minefield that needs to be carefully negotiated

Solidarity with all trans and intersex people having their existence debated every time a tv host hasn't done their prep and can't think of any more questions

Is there nowhere more discreet they could put that thing?

Eden Lake (2008) I kept waiting for the monster to show up until I realised the “monster” was working class kids with overgrown haircuts. The depiction of peer pressure feels accurate. Nonetheless, this is Tory garbage 1.5/4

Mimic (1997) Visually striking (it is del Toro) but moody and plodding, especially in its first half, and never tense or scary. A-list actors give performances that suggest they weren’t comfortable with or convinced by the material 2/4

“What’s the matter, babe? You’ve barely drank any of your Anderson .Paak Jameson”

Bug (2006) Friedkin takes you into the slimy-grimy world of a motel room. A highly compelling depiction of paranoia. I admire the actors for going fully in on his vision, and they’re all excellent. Good stuff 3.5/4

The tenant at the centre of the Jim Gavin rent payments issue contacted Fianna Fáil on Saturday but has not received any call back from the party or the former candidate since, The Journal has learned.

Tenant yet to hear from Jim Gavin or Fianna Fáil about money owed
The tenant is none the wiser about whether work is underway for his €3,300 to be returned.

The funniest part of the Jim Gavin scandal is that his excuse is that back in 2009 he was in financial hardship, while running for… Fianna Fáil

The Night House (2020) Highly compelling and truly chilling. The payoff is thin on surprises, but does just about hang together. Strong work all round 3/4

Manifesting all the people who owe me money one day run to become the president of Ireland…

The rent scandal is so devastating for Jim Gavin because almost everyone knows what it’s like to be screwed out of money by someone who already has more than them

Liverpool on track to lose every game of my 40s. What league will we be in after ten consecutive relegations?

A few there I’ve not seen, will try to check out, thanks!

The Boogeyman (2023) Portrait of grief via many old Freddy Kruger tropes. Too slickly produced to be scary but nonetheless pretty tense with fine central performances 2.5/4

Night of the Reaper (2025) Works hard in the final act to subvert the cliches it also wants to revel in (I yelled “Run, get out of the house!” at the screen several times) but ultimately not smart enough to justify such heavy use of those tropes. Still, the central mystery maintains interest 2/4

It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.

RIP Assata Shakur
