I stitched this old tweet by @ladyofsardines.bsky.social and remind myself of its truth literally every day.
Photograph of an embroidery hoop. A tangle of multi colored threads dangles from the bottom of the hoop, and stitched in grey thread is the following quote by Ursula Wolfe-Rocca: "It can be overwhelming to witness/experience/take in all the injustices of the moment. The good news is that they're all connected, so if your little corner or work involves pulling at one of the threads, you're helping to unravel the whole damn cloth."

Azza has had a campaign for a while and been able to raise no money on it- let’s help her rebuild ❤️
mommunism.bsky.social
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Azza. Before this Azza worked in a kindergarten and her husband owned a small coffee shop. They lost their home in the first two weeks of the war. They are trying to survive with their children Nisreen, 16, Layan, 14 and Ibrahim, 11.

One thing I didn't have space to mention here in any detail but that's also an important part of the story is the EU. The EU, for all their talk of terroir and etc. is a factory farming powerhouse and they import 90+% of their soy because of both land concerns and the GMO ban (most feed soy is GMO).

"How much soy we produce shouldn’t be a barometer for how well our agriculture sector is doing, but for how unsustainable it is."

I wrote for @newrepublic.com that the trade war with China shows we grow too many crops to feed not people but factory-farmed animals.

Trump’s Tariffs Should Force a Reckoning With America’s Soy Industry
The industry became the world’s second largest not because of human demand for soy, but to feed China’s pigs.

I was traveling through Denmark recently and read that there are almost 12 million pigs in the country’s factory farms (in a country with a population of about 6 million). It’s devastating to think about.

I’m Irish and I know the colonization of Ireland didn’t have anything to do with religion. I would agree with the man you met on that point. I was just saying that the orange in our flag doesn’t represent the British. It represents Protestant Irish.
deborahrosereeves.bsky.social
Beautiful place. The orange in the flag was designed to represent Protestants and the green was to represent Catholics. I guess some Irish people then and now might think Protestant = Brits, but the idea of the flag back then was to unify Irish people of both Christian traditions

Some names & faces have become so familiar to me over the past year, I always feel relieved when I see that Ahmed and his sweet son are still here - though I hate to see them struggle. If you have even a small amount to spare/share, everything helps 🙏🏻

Hello to all my friends, we are alive, we are still struggling to live, and here is my son Ashraf playing in the tent. I hope to build him a beautiful future away from wars. The war has exhausted us and destroyed all our ambitions. I hope you will support us and stand by us.🙏❤️‍🩹😔

Hi Ahmed, I made a donation and will share your fundraiser. Take care 🙏🏻

I did laugh when Bob fell off the roof & was immediately tazed. That was comedy gold. But, yeah, I agree… I could have watched a whole movie about Benicio’s world. Mostly I would like to have seen the movie deepen the characterization of Perfidia and Willa and give them more time and depth.
deborahrosereeves.bsky.social
I loved the Benicio character and wanted to spend more time in that world. There was so much potential in this film in terms of characters, themes & subject matter but it just felt underwritten, underdeveloped and ultimately lacked a clear vision or position imo

I agree with a lot of this review too:

“One Battle After Another makes light of a serious issue, while lacking the satirical bite to make the audience look past the laughter. The question is if it intended to.”

The tastiest vegan food in Oslo is at Ethiopian restaurants, Indian restaurants or - today’s gem - GazaKjøkken where I also stocked up on cans of Palestine cola and a jar of sumak. Fortsett å boikotte Israel & Fritt Palestina! 🇵🇸🇳🇴
Photo of my food order at GazaKjøkken, a Palestinian fast food cafe in Oslo Norway. In front of a half eaten falafel wrap and a can of Palestine orange soda is a sticker with an illustration of a character with long green hair wearing a keffiyah, their arm is raised and their mouth is open in protest, in green and red text above and below the cartoon character are the words FRITT PALESTINA (Free Palestine) Photo of a jar of reddish brown Sumak spice. The label is a black & white keffiyah scarf and an illustration of a green olive tree with the text “Jayyous. Sumak Made by my mother”

The first significant protest in Portland OR was on Friday 13th and there were MAX 80 people at City Hall. I counted. The PDX numbers grew quickly-ish but there was not immediate let alone widespread preexisting support for Palestine at that point.
deborahrosereeves.bsky.social
A PDX friend and I were just talking about our ambivalence around the depiction of Portland right now. We’re both loving the frogs & unicorns and know that this Portland is real and does exist. But it’s not the whole story of the city and I think it’s dangerous to deny/ignore its other realities.
deborahrosereeves.bsky.social
“It is the city’s progressive veneer, this book argues, that allows the repressive core of its policing machinery to function so effectively, weathering scandals, co-opting critics, and periodically renewing police legitimacy with well-timed and carefully limited reforms.”

Loody is doing great, she ventures outside a lot more now but mostly loves snuggling up near the skylight. Even in a camper van, they’ve each marked out their territories and are staking their claim on cosy spots now the weather’s cooling 🍂

#Caturday #WinterIsComing
A grey and white cat sits on a folded woolen blanket in a nooky spot of the overhead storage above the cab of a van. The skylight above/behind her shows a blue sky with faint white clouds. Colorful paper chains hang in half loops below her on the plastic face of the bulkhead (I don’t know the exact vocabulary for these parts of the van eek!) A tuxedo cat with a dashing white mustache looks out from a large tweedy grey dog bed on top of a couch in a camper van. Behind him, a large raindrop-dappled window looks out onto a sloping hill and grey sky.

Another Caturday on the road with this messer. Norway is so beautiful, it tires the eyes…
