WIP. Some recent texture experiments — trims really are everything.

In a hallway of antiseptic teal panels, a mechanical fixture painted in a vibrant contrast of white and cobalt. Forty-five degree insets and typographical styling where not rectilinear and salient on this stark design is the acronym "VA". A dull reflectivity on hazard stripes catch a blue light that crests to a glinting of scratches and edge wear on a beige polymer device that curves from the floor. The mechanism forewarned to caution. Intricate metal lattices and supports, a substrate for the negative space of large and metal panels that comprise the walls of a hallway. Crimson is the light that catches upon the corner gleaming of a duct of the hallway.

Someone asked if I was on steroids at the gym... I've finally made it as a natural lifter. 😌

🎂 It's my special cake and candles day you all have to be nice to me because it's been QUITE the year 🎂

So share some of my paintings??
In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.
A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree. A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air. Wipeout 3 (1999).

Still transcendent in raw aesthetics, there's a timeless pleasure in precisely gliding over spiraling tracks of reinforced concrete at five hundred kilometers an hour to Sasha and Orbital.
An angular craft, like a stiletto or a surgical cavity separator, with vibrant livery of teal and yellow floats above the concrete. Meters in width, racing stripes legible at unthinkable speed paint the starting positions by an industrial port servicing a superfreighter larger than a skyscraper. This as all other images to follow is a PC emulated screenshot from Wipeout (1999). The immensity of the track curves down and inwards like a mobius strip of paper. Yellow chevrons adorn the obverse and sides. A craft, white and navy, curves reckless to the implied racing line. Emerald trees and a sky of cyan. Yet the track is shielded from this idyll by towering panes of glass or transparent polymer. A racing craft's engine flares like a phosphorous fire. A machine without superfluous geometry. Teal and yellow and with a vibrant engine flare like a falling star. Its tail elongate over the white stripes of the concrete track; its velocity terrifying.

Afflicted with swimmer's rash so I can only look upon this jellyfish with envy.
The dome of jelly wrings itself against the current, floating above a landscape of caustic light from waves whose crests draw the countless branches of a weeping tree over a sand topography.

Smug little fuckboi — I wish I could immerse myself so!

Leviathan (2014).

Keep thinking about this masterpiece from director Andrey Zvyagintsev. One of the best films of the decade and indeed ever made — it stares without compromise at the tidal history of a nation, all its power and cruelty and tragedy, crashing into several characters.

📽️
With the sun low over the horizon we see a two-storey home by an estuary a cool-blue that contrasts with the warm light of the dwelling. Framed by a repetitious wallpaper, we see a woman sitting alone at a table with a gaze fixed forward as if all energy was requisitioned for a basic composure. Against a brilliant sky, slate clouds on a orange firmament we glimpse a dark ruin illuminated proudly by an improvised fire within. In the gray innards of a car likewise surrounded by a gray landscape, a disheveled figure seems utterly defeated in his downcast glance.

From "Niccolo" graduation short film (Gobelins school, France).
Inspired by Italian violinist and composer Niccolo Paganini.
And I can also feel Yoshitaka Amano's influence, clearly.

I rarely felt such accomplishment as taking down the Last Judge. I wasn't even upset that I was standing too close and with too little health and had to do it all again.

From the demo of Sword Hero (2025).

An incredible morsel that gestures towards a masterpiece somehow solo developed. The systemic riches of a Gothic (2001) or Arx Fatalis (2002) enjoined to a fighting system whose weight, consequence and sophistication leaves so much else revealed as milquetoast.
"How come you're back so soon?"

The merchant is attired in regal purple in the cobblestone walls of this hold. Stars or silver bursts are scattered over his finery that does not veil the steel prosthetic where all that was his arm below the elbow was once. Tomes and swords and potions of hues various spill over the counter, the shelves, ground, all. Darius is his name. The point of the estoc rests over the shoulder as though a penance weight for a sinner to an obscure order. An iron grate is the sky above, channeling its softness into precise squares. Leaves and bushes overgrow the entrance into the arena whose opening is irregular like a gored hole. Death awaits at least one party.

my tortico sheba looks into the camera lovingly. she has a splotch of orange that goes up her small nose. her fur is black and white with splotches of orange throughout. she is wearing a grey sweater with a forest green collar with a lime green bell attached. her white whiskers splay out like constellations.
i will miss her for the rest of my life.

I write this after having set a new personal record on dumbbell presses (40kg for 5) and incline curls (25kg for 5) this week and becoming far stronger than I've ever been at this weight.
A gym selfie of yours truly, cropped to show off the developed bicep, brachioradialis and tricep after setting a new personal record for dumbbell presses with a 191cm frame, 87kg.

Ought throughout this thread implies can. If joint issues or ability constraints restrict you to low-weight or low-intensity exercise, then you have all of my encouragement as that still confers wonderful mobility, skeletal muscle and quality-of-life improvements beyond one's youth.
demiurge.bsky.social
Embrace failure where safe, especially on machines or with dumbbells. Lift as strongly as you can and develop the requisite knowledge of your body of when you can push past failure with partial reps or momentum. Either is vastly preferable to never moving the weight at all.
demiurge.bsky.social
For progress after years of lifting that's what it takes. If you can check your phone during a leg press or hold a conversation with a gym partner, effort is being left to waste. Increasing intensity is hard yet far more efficient than so many superfluous sets or junk volume.
demiurge.bsky.social
Your face is red. Your limbs or entire body is shaking. Your expression is a Max Payne grimace. The speed of the bar is at a crawl compared to your first rep. Whatever isn't directly contracting for the movement is trying to involve itself in an emergency offensive. You look like you're in labour.
demiurge.bsky.social
Most people in the gym who are not beginners, simply don't train with sufficient intensity. I myself plateaued for too long mistaking a merely hard set for the best I could've done.

It sounds like facile advice — "try your hardest" but so few actually know what that looks like in training.

This is a photo of Steve Reeves (1926-2000). His physique was attained in what is called the Silver Era of bodybuilding — before steroids. He remained a natural lifter all his life.

To this day, he visibly mogs so many "enhanced" lifters. But there's really no hidden trick in his training approach.
In monochrome, a statue sculpted toward a majesty of impression. Striated muscle flaring out and around and articulating a strength that remains little peered. A countenance as commanding and handsome as any other element of conscious development. It's a black and white photograph of Steve Reeves (1926-2000).
