Hello!!! Well I've officially hit the three decades alive milestone and from now on I'll be deeply serious at all times starting maybe

But here's some art of mine! It'd mean a lot if you gave it a share!

What's extra cool about that first pic is you can see some of its original red and gold paint still in place which makes me do a little happy dance

Ah you mean where I'm sitting for lunch today

It's a paradise of medieval glass, both in the minster and in the various churches

These are in the chapter House vestibule at York Minster. Looks like this!

I often neglect to appreciate this period of English Gothic architecture (It's known as the "Decorated" period for obvious reasons), mostly because of its frequent and ubiquitous poor imitation by Victorian architects, but sometimes you have to stop and marvel at the real thing.

Good morning, why not wake up to some fancy late 13th century carving
A carved stone capital of the late 13th century depictng a human face surrounded by beasts and decorative leaves. Some flecks of red and gold paint are still visible. A capital showing many carved animals, perhaps cats with mice in their mouths? A carved carousel depicting various birds among precisely cut leaves. A carved capital depicting dragons sleeping among realistic leaves.

Okay here's the diagram! No measuring, all with compass/straightedge. Start with the big equilateral arch first. The rest falls into place relatively easily.

Would anybody like to see a construction diagram version of this?

The trefoil circle at the top has the wrong number of facets/layers, and is supposed to blend in to the tops if the two arches more. The central line between the two arched sections has a similar problem too. The cusps of the arches aren't quite right (because the real things are non-standard)!

Not as accurate as I'd like but hey first attempt

Not only is it how anyone has seen my art, how I've been able to be a working artist at all, but it's also how/why I moved this year too so uhhhhhh

Where do I start lmao

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

It's really difficult but satisfying to get right!

Volunteer suggested I should volunteer there and honestly I just might
holboldoart.bsky.social
Drew for lan hour, wandered around for another 45 minutes, fired nerdy architecture questions at a volunteer for an hour and now I know loads more about the building, and I got to go beyond the rope up to the high altar to talk about the shrine that used to stand there

Pretty good day yay

It's visible right into the northern renaissance, such as with Hans Memling's triptych of The Just Judgement. Strongly falls off with the various Protestant reformations.

It has no title- it's on the south nave wall of the Church of St James the Great, South Leigh, Oxfordshire. It's a depiction of the Archangel Michael weighing souls, common in medieval art. There are little demons trying to interfere with the scales, which is fun.
