Postal services in other countries have already cut off package mail to the US. Now UPS bails. All because of Trump's tariffs.

Churn that in your brain a bit. We live in a country so backward it's cut off from mail from the rest of the world.

OK, this episode of Bourdain I'm watching. He's in Buenos Aires and throughout is talking about depression and how he struggles to be happy. Not sure why this is in this particular episode, but that's way too real and it's painful to watch. Tony telling us what's coming.

Bill Griffith later told me, no, that was MY biz plan and Matt copied ME. Zippy started out as a weekly strip. I have no reason to doubt Bill.

So MY biz plan was a copycat of a copycat. That is classic comics stuff!

When I decided to distribute my comic strip nationally, I asked the editor at The Cleveland Edition, my lone client paper, if he had any promo material from other cartoonists, so I could see what they were doing. He handed me some Life In Hell mailers.

So I copied Matt's biz plan! And it worked!

Matt Groening is the cartoon voice of a generation. Curiously, it isn't HIS generation. He's older, and a full-on Boomer. But he's on the same mount with Bill Mauldin, Harvey Kurtzman, Charles Schultz, Garry Trudeau (for a time) as the cartoon voices of THEIR generations.

Matt, of course, was the best of us weekly guys. He was the first to break out (this was before the Simpsons, when he REALLY broke out). I thought Life in Hell was stone-cold brilliant; in concept, in look, in execution. Matt and Lynda led me to try my hand at a weekly strip. Not as good as theirs.
