The Last Stand"-Serie, Warfare 1917 & 1944 usw..
THIS.

Meine Probleme damit:

Okay, hold on. How did I just discover that Miriam Makeba sang Suliram? Like one of the more popular indonesian folk songs? Which apparently is also popular in Malaysia because apparently (?) it came from Riau, an Indonesian province in Sumatra which shares a lot with Malaysia..

How cool is that??
to thematize this game. 18/18
and historically (especially South East Asian history) charged games, check it out. As I've probably mentioned, it speaks about a part of South East Asian history very few games have yet tried to tackle. And even if we're still far away from its 1.0, kudos to the studio for at least attempting 17/x
Also last but not least. The visuals. Which I'd describe as Wes-Anderson-ish. At first glance it's colorful, yet at the same time somewhat saturated whilst all along hiding a more contemplative meaning in its storytelling.

Overall, again, if you're a fan of Papers Please and politically 16/x
You'll meet a plethora of characters with characteristics that tells their ideals, thoughts, situations etc., which at the end of the day you'll have to contend with. They and their situations adds a layer of narrative that complicates the relationship between the state and the individual. 15/x

justice. Whilst yes, your cases will be reviewed, you, as the daily face of the governmental machine will be asked for your conscience and compliance at the same time - serving two masters so to say.

And honestly, this is much more closer to Papers Please than some of the recent games inspared 13/x
middle management, you get to face the wrath of the people (literally and figuratively) and bend your knees and defend your arguments in front of higher level state workers - not completely free of corruption, of course. But more importantly, you are literally at the forefront of the blind 12/x
whole German November Revolution situation www.bundestag.de/resource/blo..., where conflicting parties, less along racial ones, more along political ones were trying to reach power in the situation).

And you, dear player, are stuck on the middle of it all. As the lowest strata of national 11/x

And with the colonializing forces comes the globalizing ones: multiple ethnicities living, at this point of time since generations in the same place trying to find a new identity - ethnic or national. The aforementioned dog 8/x

All the while you're managing the remnants of a formerly colonial society with its globalized population: animals somewhat represents different national/ethnic belongings, which impacts the writing of the game. E.g. your training officer avoiding 5/x
intertwining fates of the people whose land are being taken away - with or without compensation, depending on multiple factors. In the demo, this is simplified by having only one chance to review each case before making a decision (time constraint), although the intro mission already foreshadwos 4/x
