I’d rather the US treated other countries well and mispronounced their names than pronouncing names correctly and mistreating them but I definitely hear you on some specific names.
I’d also love to know a little history of the idea of pronouncing foreign names more like locals would than not

In the 90’s (might still be true today but I don’t know) West Germans had to serve in the military or do public service. A student I worked with had trained as a medic for his time and as the build up to the Gulf War happened he got notices that if casualties came to Europe he might get called up

Tonight’s cocktail with @carlamiriam.bsky.social is the Alaska thanks to the Mixel app: 1.5 oz gin, 0.5 oz yellow chartreuse and orange bitters. It’s nice but it has a simple taste. We might try it with old tom gin or perhaps with some Maraschino Liqueur. Good enough to experiment!

Tonight’s drink is the Greta Garbo: rum, maraschino, lime, simple syrup and a rinse of absinthe. Next time I make this: less simple syrup more maraschino but it’s yummy
