“Everything runs through mental skills.”

That’s how Mariners coach Adam Bernero describes the team's approach to the modern game.

We talked about his role as a Mental Performance Coach, player trust, and resilience in MLB:

Yeah that's been my sense as well. Although I'd be in favor of experimenting with defensive fit while the team is bad rather than waiting! Maybe they hoped he'd get better? It just hasn't happened.
I've been saying this for years! It's strange to me that this isn't discussed more often.

Last month, I sat down with Mental Performance Coach Adam Bernero to learn about his approach to helping the Mariners mental game. Today, they play one of the most important games in franchise history. Whatever else they are doing to prepare, I'm confident barefoot walks are included.

That's a really fun top 4 on the Peoria side!
Pat Murphy is quickly becoming my favorite interview in baseball.
Pat Murphy pressers hit different
Have they both ever shown up at the same game together?

I will say this again and again until the cap fetishists get it. There is a 1:1 correlation between "leagues that have broken their unions" and "leagues with a payroll cap." Let that be a clue as to who wins in a cap system.
Vladdy Jr. Is really just doing this to the Yankees huh?
Exceptional metaphor @baumann.bsky.social. Especially because these people would probably respond in exactly that way to an actual flat tire!
How is this the location of an MLB playoff game?
This was meant to say *hello not help... I was excited.
If you walk someone on 4 pitches, but the slowest one was 102.6 MPH, do you win a prize?
Why help Jacob, it's good to see you too.

It's kind of funny saying José Caballero just missed it, as if he's ever hit a homer to center in his life.
It's hard to overstate the bargain that Pivetta's contract is for the Padres. It confused me all offseason that he didn't have any suitors, and 4 years $55M felt like a no brainier for nearly every team!
If you're looking to get in the mood for the full slate of playoff games today, my latest article is up on Beyond the Boundary. I look at pressure in October baseball: what it is and why it matters.

Kristian Campbell at -10 in 67 games is really something.
I love that the AL East teams are just going to battle it out for a spot in the ALCS.
The answer is James Outman!

If you stretch to 75 PA in September (Outman barely makes the cut at 50), the top 5 is:

Judge
Ohtani
Raleigh
Schwarber
???

Any guesses on #5?
@mikepetriello.bsky.social Here's another fun one: The top 5 players in barrel rate in the month of September (min 50 PA):

1. ??? - 30.1%
2. Aaron Judge - 29.1%
3. Shohei Ohtani - 29.1%
4. Cal Raleigh - 24.6%
5. Kyle Schwarber - 23.1%

Who is #1?
