My current audiobook listen. Big thumbs up so far.

DT probably believes it, for the rest of those assholes it’s just an official pretext to go after their foes. Just like “woke” is anything they don’t like, “antifa” is now officially anyone who opposes or even just criticizes them. ✊ #fightthepower

Love the whole book but my favorite is “Andy Kaufman Creeping through the Trees.” Another story with scenes burned into my mind -- the Clifton performance and the finale at the house are just WILD. And another plug for Laird's audiobooks. The StC narrator took some getting used to but I came around.

I’ll go with “The Men from Porlock,” partially because I saw Laird read from it at NecronomiCon 12 years ago. (12 years?!?) My copy of TBTTAUA was still in the mail when I left for the con so Laird gave me a signed copy to read on the plane ride home. Absolute legend. 🖤

“Hallucigenia.” It made a big dent on my psyche, messed me up for DAYS after I read it the first time. Besides the barn, Helen’s declining medical situation and (especially) the encounter between Wallace and Choate in the alley have never left my memory. Also, the audiobook version is perfect.

“Mysterium Tremendum” and “--30--“ for me. I went back and reread “--30--“ after watching They Remain and liked it even better then.

Attention horror authors - only a couple of days left to submit yer work to FLESH zine. Pro rates and a great venue. @cursedmorsels.bsky.social is good folks in general. Looking forward to reading FLESH.
cursedmorsels.bsky.social
Looking to submit to a zine that welcomes horror for all its nastiness and also pays 10 cents per word? Look no further.

Open for subs through October 7th: cursedmorsels.com/submission-c...
FLESH Zine
For this submission call, we’re looking for pieces (500 words or fewer) connected to the broad theme of FLESH. This zine will be included for free with Samir Sirk Morató’s Gore Poetics, a Cursed Morsels 2026 release. For context, this book is weird, erotic, grotesque, queer, transgressive, literary, and intense if that gives you a sense for the kinds of work Samir and I (Eric Raglin) are looking for. Your submission can be fiction, poetry, or nonfiction.

Pay is 10 cents per word. We’re asking for first worldwide print and digital publishing rights but no exclusivity period. Contributors will receive five free physical copies of the zine.

So @wolfemac.bsky.social shared this amazing pic of the mag in an ACTUAL BOOKSTORE

And I started crying when I saw the titles around it.

It's right next to Chuck Tingle for fuck's sake.

My new baby kittens have a pricy vet follow-up in a few weeks, my old-man cat still needs his various prescriptions, AND my rent is going up in November, so book revenue is increasingly important nowadays! Please consider ordering a copy or leaving a review somewhere online 🤞

R E M I N D E R that my debut horror/dark SFF/weird fiction collection Spiritus Ex Machina is available in ebook and paperback versions via Grimscribe Press (there was also a sold-out hardcover). Proceeds are mostly going towards my elderly cat's medical needs
Cover of Spiritus Ex Machina by LC von Hessen, available from Grimscribe Press. This book has . . . dolls! puppets! masks! mannequins!, olde-timey bollocks, extreme social discomfort, dream logic, weird kinks, dubious medical ethics, some Lovecraftian bits if you're into that (or if you HATE that), and D E S P A I R.

If you missed out on @nadiabulkin.bsky.social's "Red Skies in the Morning" when I published it in 2024, you can finally read it in her outstanding new collection, ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY, along with two other novellas, one exclusive to this book. A must-read.
Two books by Nadia Bulkin laid flat on a kitchen table: on the left, ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY (Ghoulish Books, 2025), and on the right, RED SKIES IN THE MORNING (Dim Shores, 2024).

If you have already read Nadia’s first collection SHE SAID DESTROY (Word Horde, 2017), you know you need ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY. If you haven’t read SHE SAID DESTROY, please do. Nadia is one of the best at what she does, please support her and the indie presses that make work like this available.

Hugh Cook’s Chronicles of an Age of Darkness does some of this. Different books have different protagonists who experience the same events in different, sometimes contradictory, ways. My favorite weird fantasy/SF series.

Preordered each as soon as that was an option. Can’t wait man!

Rolling into Portland around 8:00 tonight. I’m staying near the Hollywood Theater, up for shenanigans and/or hijinks. Any of you fine folks in the area?

OK, first proof/ARCs have been printed for The Maidens of Midnight, the first collection by @charibdys.bsky.social. Fantastic art seen here by @luciaretamales.bsky.social. And look how chonky it is - 170 pages, by far the thickest single-author book I’ve published. Pre-order coming soon.
A fanned-out stack of six copies of The Maidens of Midnight and Other Lost Media by Rhiannon Rasmussen. The cover art shows a large red face with open mouth and fangs that seems to hang in the sky as a woman in a sheer white gown looks toward it. The setting looks to be a wooded path in the forest at night. There is a box near the upper right corner that says “UNCORRECTED PROOF — ADVANCE REVIEW COPY." Interior art by Lucia Retamales of something that looks like a cursed Tamagotchi hanging in front of a glitching video screen. Six copies of The Maidens of Midnight and Other Lost Media, stacked and photographed so the spines are visible. This counts as a long book for Dim Shores.
