I’ve noticed a bunch of newcomers, so welcome!
Let me introduce myself: I’m Djigr, PhD student at MNHN in Paris, working on the phylogeny of pollinating scarabs 🪲
Firm believer in the fact that science is fun, I have a thousand scicom projects which I’ll be posting about:
Cool girl in a Pokemon T-shirt, ammonite choker necklace, and flamboyant eyeliner - it’s Djigr! Box of specimens of pinned black or orange scarabs, with the focus on a label reading "Pentodon idiota idiota (Herbst)", which is quite rude to the Pentodon who didn’t deserve to be called an idiot

#paleoctober2025 day 12 : Nyctosaurus gracilis !

A classic among pterosaurs, this relative of Pteranodon had likewise no digits on its hand and a crest, althought here the crest was gigantic. It was most of the time soaring over the cretaceous seas with elongated wings like modern seabirds.

day 12 of #paleoctober2025 - nyctosaurus, a mid-sized pterosaur. currently the consensus is that nyctosaurus didn't have a sail connecting the struts of its crests, but I took some artistic liberty

#paleoctober2025 day 11 : Melanocyrillium !

Single-celled organisms are often overlooked but we know hundreds of fossil remains from little living beings, such as Melanocyrillium. Its urn-shaped species are supposed to be a form of shell-bearing amibeae (yes, they do exist, it's wild oO).
Drawings of the 3 species known of Melanocyrillium, showing the variations around the urn-shaped body :
 - M.hexodiadema with its hexagonal top
 - M.horodyskii, the widdest cell of the 3 species
 - M.fimbriatus, the finnest of the 3 species Fossils of Melanocyrillium hexodiadema, showing the urn shape of the cell and the hexagonal top of the cell seen in this species

My name is Sakher, and this is my new account — after my old one was suddenly taken down.
For the past 4 days, I’ve been silent… not because I wanted to, but because I lost my only voice — the place where I used to speak to the world.
More talk in the comments….

"My AI is going to help me go through my calendar and is so clever!"
Your AI is going to have so much access to your private life and send it to third parties that you might as well go to work naked if you’re so sure about it

Worth a watch:

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.
