I have no words. To be able to share this with my sons is incredible.
Yeah, neither Nelson Liriano nor Mark Sharperson were the answer at 2nd that year.
You’d think Dodgers fans would be euphoric and not insufferable, but I was wrong.
Yeah, Day One Jays fan here, but thanks for the feedback.
We all aged during that time.
He took way beyond a reasonable amount of time. Umpires have discretion, but Schneider was justifiably pissed at the length of time he was given.
I’m not sure this is making the argument you think it is.
You think Ohtani getting some extra time between innings made the difference? I mean I he gave up a 3 run bomb. Didn’t seem to be helping him that much.
And your explanation for Ohtani getting extra time between innings would be?
You can pin the Yankees loss to the Cards in the final game of the 1926 Series. After being walked for the 4th time, Ruth took off for 2nd. But at 31 and not known for his training habits, Ruth had slowed considerably, and was easily thrown out at 2nd.
Ruth’s explanation:
For those not alive in 1987, the whole last week for the Blue Jays was as gut-wrenching as last night. They lost their last 7 to lose the pennant. Every day, I woke up thinking, “they’ll win tonight.”
And they didn’t. That was torturous.
Royals won game 7 11-0. Denkinger’s call did not lose the Series for the Cards, who hit .185 over the 7 games. 2/2
Umpire Don Denkinger did make the wrong call on a close play at 1st late in the ‘85 series (Cards vs Royals), but a missed pop up by 1B Jack Clark, an intentional walk, and a passed ball put runners at 2nd & 3rd. Dane (brother of Garth) Iorg looped single to score both for a Royals W. 1/2
86 Red Sox fans have entered the chat.
Before Bill Buckner (whose knees were shot, and had been replaced in late innings all season) let that groundball go between his legs, there was a comedy of Red Sox miscues led to them blowing the 2-run lead they had grabbed in the top of the 10th.
People forget that before Steve Bartman reached his way into immortality, Alex Gonzalez booted a routine double play ball.
Focusing on one play ignores the consequential misplays before it.
Just a reminder that there are 28 other fanbases that would be happy to feel what we’re feeling today.
Baseball first broke my heart in 1981.
It truly is a game of failure, which makes both the pinnacles and valleys of the sport that much more intense.
Obviously, Bessent is still smarting from Canada’s Four Nations hockey win.
BREAM: How do trade talks get back on with Canada?

BESSENT: We'll see. This is very serious. The prime minister of Ontario, who I imagine is smarting quite a bit from the Blue Jays loss, spent $75 million interfering in US public policy. A price has got to be paid for this.
While I don’t know if this was the greatest Series ever (recency bias and all that), I’m fairly confident you can put Yamamoto’s performance up with those of Smokey Joe Wood, Pete Alexander, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Mickey Lolich, and Randy Johnson.
The Dodgers don’t win without him
You can’t pin last night’s loss on one player.
Quite frankly, I think Doug Ford owes all of Canada an apology for his Ring of Fire commercial.
Yesterday was probably the best day of my baseball life, so I can live with tonight.
Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 32 years to get back.
Ok, so now we can all focus our attention on the Leafs, right?
When I first saw Vladdy at 3rd in 2017, he made plays on balls he got to. With his hands, footwork, and baseball IQ, he’s a natural at 1st.
I learned this week that the Blue Jays pay for Spanish lessons for their staff.
