“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
-Rogers Hornsby

All the best to my readers and followers this festive season. Baseball inches closer every day. 2026 is going to be great.
As a Canadian, it’s not easy to cheer for American athletes, but Jessie’s a no-brainer.
Jessie Diggins, Olympic cross-country skiing gold medalist, from the Twin Cities: “I want to make sure you know who I’m racing for…”

Hey, everyone. I have some exciting news. I’ll be providing coverage of the Blue Jays farm system over the course of the season in the Toronto Star. Next to playing CF and hitting leadoff for the Jays, this is a dream come true. First piece will be in late March. Stay tuned….

If it walks like a duck…..”
Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later -- not retire -- or work better during their lifetime because they're healthy, it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt."

Vancouver ranks as the most pitcher-friendly park in all of High A. Just ask Arjun Nimmala.

Scheer, by contrast, operates in a gravity-free environment when it comes to principles.
SCHEER: "When [Mark Carney] wrote that book, quoting Karl Marx and talking about his core values and talking about leaving oil and gas in the ground, I believe him. I also believe that Liberals are unburdened by principle, and so they will say whatever it takes to get elected."

A “scouting report” that landed in my inbox just now included the phrase “to the MLB,” and I can smell the AI a mile away.

What Jessie has done to improve her classic technique is incredible. She truly is a once-in-a-generation athlete.
The most accomplished U.S. cross-country skier is going on one last Olympic run.

This time, she’s doing it on her terms.

It’s very hard to believe this girl is one year old today.
She’s brought a great deal of joy to our home.

Was this vehicle made in Brampton?
This administration is cooked. Literally no one is scared of them.

Sorry to see former Jays coach Gil Kim leave for the Tampa organization.
He managed in Dunedin last year, and was always made time for me when he was farm director.

Snow farming has become a European ritual. Races are often held on ribbons of snow surrounded by fields of brown.
Climate change is warming winters around the world, and it’s already reshaping the Winter Olympics. From artificial snow to shrinking host cities, the sports we love are feeling the heat.

Coleman was a guy both farm director Joe Sclafani and MiLB pitching director Justin Lehr raved about late in the season.
#Bluejays have announced a group of 20 players who aren’t on the 40 that they’ve invited to spring training.

Excited to see a few of these - Nimmala, Stanifer, McAdoo and Kasevich especially. But that’s just me.

3 Jays (Yesavage, Nimmala, and Parker) make the list.
It’s a little surprising Johnny King isn’t.
He and Juan Sanchez might be there by season’s end. And don’t sleep on Gage Stanifer.

Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame voters mark their ballots soon.
Given that this is the 100th anniversary of the Toronto Maple Leafs International League and Junior World Series triumphs, I’m hopeful that Dan Howley, the face of the franchise, will get elected.
