lately I really like the flats + gradients look, even though I'm working on studying and improving my rendering I think there's something to be said for picking a really solid foundation with your flat colors and leaning on it and the graphic style that gives, and calling it finished like that

he was an assassin sent to kill a queen, but only managed to wound one of her body doubles instead. trapped on Cyre 1313, he found out the queen was the Last Passenger and intended to finish the job, but it was the same double. this time he killed her, thus skull + feminine crown

idk I think I've seen too much of the "draw it messy" rhetoric that isn't ACTUALLY messy, and I never, ever share this step because I've always felt it's much too amateurish to let people see it. Fuck it. This is how I sketch, I'm gonna be real about it. THIS is what it means to clean it up later.

I always draw my thumbnails really tiny, sometimes as small as an inch and a half or so on a sticky note, this was a quarter of a 4"x6" canvas zoomed out really far. I didn't care about what it looked like, I just wanted the idea out there. I'm working on flats + background now, it's grown so much 💖
