It’s just a regular birthday party.
A tape I found today:
Emmanuelle’s Birthday Party….

Do you think it’s just a regular birthday party? -or something else?
If you want to watch a ton of 16mm footage of ‘90s Bermuda, this is the tape for you!
This is an impressive travelogue.
Tons of actual film footage of early ‘90s New York at the beginning.
I got a new tape.
Cruising to Bermuda
If you grab ahold of the white house on X and wake yourself up, you can bring it back to Bluesky where it’s vulnerable.

Crungley Batman and Question Monster!
This cover art is a tragic downgrade from the original.

I guess they knew. They included the iconic original as a little inset image on the back.
Now watching:
Monkey Shines (1988)
dir. George Romero
This is a super fun gross out monster movie.

It’s not one of del Toro’s exquisite masterpieces, and that’s OK.
Now watching Mimic (1997)
Dir. Guillermo del Toro

This is the 106 minute cut Weinstein insisted on. Del Toro hated it and him.
He was able to release a directors cut later on.
This movie was definitely not “Top Gun on the ski slopes”.
The best friend dying, and the main guy realizing he still has some growing to do is like Top Gun, but that’s all.

It’s that type of ‘80s light dramas, that they don’t make any more.
I’m not sure if anyone misses movies like these.
This is directed by Patrick Hasburgh, who was a co-creator of, and main writer for 21 Jump Street.

This is the only movie he ever directed.
Let’s see what we have today.

Aspen Extreme (1993)

“Top Gun on the ski slopes”
If I recall correctly, this was shot full frame, so instead of cropping for VHS they just removed the widescreen mattes.

Nice!
There’s a whole sub plot about Jame Caan trying to get books to help him, but they’ve all been digitized and summarized by the corporate authority.
He travels to the central computer to find the original text, but it’s just an AI programed to not help him.

This hits today more than it ever did.

It's a fascinatingly angry movie. I think it belongs more in the Norman Jewison canon than sci-fi. It's his social firebrand spirit
I feel like Rollerball is a great film.
It got bad-to-mixed reviews when it came out.
I think people saw a guy fighting a dystopian system and wanted to see a morality tale, but that’s not what it is.

It’s just a contemplation on futility.
With dialogue like this, how bad can it be?
Michael Gross is wonderful in this, and there’s a lot of fun stuff, but it feels a little off.

It was directed by Brent Maddock, he’s one of the original Tremors creators; he’s a writer.

You can feel a great movie in here, but it doesn’t quite come together. It’s still enjoyable though.
