The best part of Harlan Ellison's Doctor Who essay is that Pinnacle Books censored one line and one line only of Harlan's submitted draft dated Nov. 1, 1978. A dig at Anita Bryant at the height of her pernicious political influence in the States.

The Sons of 1977 ALCS. The Mariners and Blue Jays are expansion mates, born in 1977 as new AL clubs. Toronto wasn't part of MLB's US licensing agreement—they had their own team-labeled retail program which generated massive revenue, selling 120,000 caps in Vancouver alone (3,000 miles from Toronto)

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Halloweenathon #1: GREMLINS. A wonderful script packed to the gills with movie references and old-timer cameos. Billy's mom single-handedly slays three Gremlins. Every frame is a delight. Gizmo saves the day by impersonating Clark Gable. Robbie the Robot has more dialogue than Corey Feldman. 9/10!
