During Friday’s meeting, Supervisor Fortunato Bas shared some statistics from her office that underline a powerful message: Alameda County overwhelmingly supports divestment.

VICTORY! ALAMEDA COUNTY DIVESTS FROM GENOCIDE!

On October 3rd, Alameda County became the first in the United States to adopt an EIP that divests from companies that enable Israeli apartheid and occupation.
In a landmark decision, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt an Ethical Investment Policy (EIP) that bars the county from investing public funds in companies complicit in severe human rights violations as outlined by international law, including corporate complicity in Israel's ongoing genocide in Palestine. With this decision, Alameda County becomes the first in the United States to adopt an EIP that divests from companies that enable Israeli apartheid and occupation. The new policy brings the county's investments in line with international human rights standards and the demands of a growing national movement for Palestinian liberation. It is a victory for the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. We are energized to ensure the policy's full implementation and to back campagisn that will build on the BDS movement, like the Oakland People's Arms Embargo.
