I apologize. I had assumed there was a more recent political loss that I wasn't aware of. The past few days I tried to not focus so much on the political news of the US but to focus more on my own country news, so I thought I missed a big political news.

Indonesia (that red spot above Australia) has a tradition of dukun (shaman, maybe) who can give you special needle treatment to make you beautiful and alluring. It is a common secret in this allegedly Islamic country that lots of popular celebrities and politicians get the treatment.

Not an economist here: how do we know if the keystone pricing is fair? that is, do we know that 2.2-2.5x multiplier is the lowest possible multiplier? What if it turns out eg 1.7x multiplier is enough for a profit, but the store wanted to increase their profits? Thank you.

I was under the impression that a trifecta in 2029 is unlikely, and without a good majority, the future Dem pres can't do much to keep the reactionaries down?

Genuine Q: Surely the display of humanity is the actual cooking? Yes, having ChatGPT make the recipes is lazy, but if someone actually followed the recipe (modifying it if it asks for something physically impossible) and made an actual meal, there's nothing wrong or dehumanizing about that, no?

Genuine question: how would you behave in the inevitable cloud of diverging beliefs on AI consciousness, then? Do you lean more towards treating them as conscious, or not?

I am very confused and would like to hear others' views.

Over time, we will reinterpret our uncertain science and philosophy through the new social lenses we construct – perhaps with the help of these AI systems themselves. We will prefer certain interpretations. Lovers of AI companions might yearn to see their partners as genuinely conscious. Exploiters of AI tools might prefer to regard their systems as nonconscious artifacts. More complex motivations and relationships will also emerge, including ones we cannot currently conceptualize.

Tenuous science will bend to these motivations. We will favor the theories that support our social preferences. Even when scientific consensus speaks clearly against our preferences, systems can be redesigned to make the evidence conveniently ambiguous. If the leading theories say, for example, that recurrence and self-representation are necessary for consciousness, designers who seek consciousness attribution can add enough recurrence and self-representation to escape easy refutation. Designers seeking instead to deny consciousness can ensure their systems differ enough in material and function to count as nonconscious on some reasonable theories, which then become their favorite theories.

The result: We will think we have solved the problem of AI consciousness, even if we have not.
