Russia is not defeated yet. "After the war" perhaps we will all be more lenient about Russians in our countries.

Latvia is everything but homogeneous. You never visited it in your life, did you?
eastsplaining.bsky.social
So "forcing" people to learn Latvian is "similar" to Gulag?
eastsplaining.bsky.social
We worked hard to be eligible for joining EU. We earned this right. Russians did not. But we will be happy if they worked equally hard for the prosperity of their country.

I apologize for my pessimism but it seems that voters recently tend to believe stupid promises like "make our country safe by staying out of this" from populist crooks. These crooks are paid by Russia and again we do nothing about it, Tim Pool, Benny Johnson and Nigel Farage just go on.

I know it is weird, but this is Russia. Indeed, by invading Donbas they hurt (and murdered) the Russian speakers they were allegedly "protecting". Before the invasion, Donetsk was one of the richest cities in Ukraine. Now they have no running water.

I wish, but in democracy, the ruling party is usually afraid to "escalate", because the opposition will scream "vote for us, these morons in charge are dragging us into war". Hitler was great with playing this, and unfortunately so is Putin.

What will change? So far, everybody knows who's behind the drones or cutting cables or cyberattacks - and nothing happens. And nothing will happen when another cable is cut or another airliner is shot from the sky.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
The thing is, there will never be an open attack. Just some sabotage, explosions, strange drones, shot down airliners etc. - with constant "it's not us, you can buy these drones in any drone store". NATO has no procedures for this. We will do nothing, as usual.

In the speech where he announced the invasion he declared he want to "undo the Lenin's mistake" of creating Ukrainian nation. This is about identity. "It's about NATO" is a lie for clueless westerners who don't speak Russian - Russians don't tell it to themselves.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
Oh my God, this is so obvious you never met actual Russians. You fancy silly imagination being separated from them by an ocean or two.

Latvia was very friendly towards Soviet Union in 1940, and still got invaded. I don't think they forgot.

Not good, not terrible (as they say in the great HBO series). He needs coalition votes to rule and he's safeguarded by the very pro Ukrainian president Petr Pavel (until 2028, if he's not reelected). He can't be "next Orban", the worst he can do is Trump-like "we will help if someone else pays".
eastsplaining.bsky.social
In Eastern Europe, we think with extra-fondness of clueless westerners idealizing the Soviet system - they were so lucky to never experience firsthand.

He also said anywhere Russian soldier set foot, is Russian forever. This includes much more than Latvia (but also, Latvia).

When you'll be visiting Prague or Wroclaw on a stag party, please don't express your opinions out loud, they're not gonna win you many friends here.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
If you're elected prime minister, we'll be surely in a tight spot. We must include this possibility in our plans.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
Unlike you, we don't care that much about the look.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
What would we do in Eastern Europe without your expert opinion about how we should be running our countries.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
It always is. When a country is put under international sanctions, everyone is hurt, not only the government.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
So you also blame Czechoslovakia for the horrible crime of removing Germans in 1945? Please for your own safety sake, don't say it out loud when visiting Prague. They speak English there, someone might understand you.
eastsplaining.bsky.social
Were all Germans expelled from Poland or Czechoslovakia after 1945 "to blame" for their government actions? Of course not. And yet they had to pay the price for what this government was doing before 1945.

Unlike Latvia, UK does not share border with Russia and there is no real threat of Russian invasion. Lucky guys! But Latvia is not that lucky.
