I wrote The Globalization of Wheat: A Critical History of the Green Revolution. It's about how narratives shape science and international development, science policy, and how good intentions can still lead to injustices.

Our theory on why this is, is just capitalism.
Something I noticed being back in the US after 4 years in Bangkok is you need an app or login for *everything*. My heated mug, phone company, and thermostat need an app. I needed a password to check-in at the salon (I didn't remember it, that was fun).

Do you enjoy New Mexico chiles? I know I do. And for that, we can thank Mexican American horticulturist Fabian García, who has been described as the “father of the New Mexican food industry” because of his pioneering work. /1

The one game my husband really wanted to watch this season 😅 It was a great game but I was mostly watching through my eyelids (sleeping on the couch)
god that was so much baseball. like a “you ate all your Halloween candy in one night” amount of baseball
I'm not ready for this cold. Spent the past 4 "winters" in Bangkok. The cats still want to have their catio time though. Widely adapted creatures!
Just go for one on each arm 😂
Two out of the past three days my baby's stroller was almost hit by a car turning too fast (or illegally on red) into a crosswalk. I love DC but these streets are not safe 😔
Decided to update my headshot. Going back to work in a week and feeling ready for a fresh start 🌈🌞

Trying to not weigh in on this ai discussion but it’s important to remember technology exists in a political economic context and what a tech “is” and whether it is a net positive or even useful to most people is largely contingent on that context
My baby doesn't like hats, which unfortunately really limits our Halloween options 😫 We went to a neighborhood costume exchange and got her a pretty cool handmade lobster costume though! 🦞
I think today is a good day for me to make apple cheddar scones!
This is great news. Air quality is consistently very bad in cities in Nepal. I hope this helps!
Everyone knows about Norway but few know this:

Nepal has quietly become an EV hot spot.

In 2024, more than 70% of newly imported four-wheeler passenger vehicles were electric, up from just 250 EVs nationwide in 2020 to over 13,000 today.

The toxic environmental legacy of the Ukraine war will be felt for generations.

@unep.org continues to support Ukraine, and other conflict countries, with these environmental impacts.

On sidelines of #UNGA, pleased to meet Oleksii Sobolev, Ukraine's Minister of Economy, Environment & Agriculture.
I'm back in DC now, where's it's rainy week!

📈 Planned production is double what’s compatible with 1.5°C in 2030.
11 of the world’s top 20 producers have increased their production plans since 2023.
🛢️ Oil and gas are set to keep rising well past 2030 under current government strategies.

💥 Probably the most important table you will see this month: The #ProductionGapReport is out and shows which governments still plan ~120% more #fossilfuel production by 2030 than under a 1.5°C #climate pathway, up from 110% in 2023.
