You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.

I'd really appreciate if writers these days took a look at their characters doing therapyspeak and whether that's appropriate for their work and their world.

By "therapyspeak" I mean speaking like this: "This is the emotion I'm feeling, and feeling that emotion makes me want to act in a way"

Beth was my favorite character, and I still feel this insane softness towards her days after reading. And Fran hit a little too close to home, so the entire end of the book keeps just replaying in my head. An excellent fucking book.

I finished Manhunt by @scumbelievable.bsky.social last week and I have not stopped thinking about it. Something about that book is stuck in my head, in a good way. It’s been a long time since I read a book that had me thinking so deeply about myself. Bleak and beautiful.

If everything goes smoothly, my genderqueer body horror novel will be done with draft two by the end of the year !! Which is huge for me, because I only started the book in Feb. This would be my fastest turnaround for a novel ever.

Speaking of ☕️, I’ve been diving into my Afghan roots to flesh out his character more and I’m really enjoying it. Many Sikhs fled Afghanistan in the 70s out of fear of prosecution, and I’m marrying that with my family’s desperate desire to assimilate to explore some of my own childhood pains.

My local thrift store keeps coming in clutch with early 80s editions of horror books. I don’t own any first editions, but I’m not a picky collector, I just want to hold copies of books from the earliest years I can get. I have two print-year copies of King novels and it makes my heart sing :3
