Also the aims of the Greens are different to 2017 Labour - they are not realistically forming a majority government at next election.

During that period Corbyn did get 12 million votes and increase majorities of a bunch of MPs in the kind of seats Greens will be targeting in 2029!

The Green Party now have 100,000 members, increasing their number by 55% since @zackpolanski.bsky.social became leader

I think the nuances of this phenomenon wouldn’t necessarily be encapsulated by that kind of study. These aren’t Reform voters or the kinds of people who would attend such a protest.

They are educated and influential people who makes swallowed a bunch of bigotry/ conspiracy stuff
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
Middle class/elite radicalisation is really concerning and definitely something that (unsurprisingly) is getting “missed” as issue as I think there’s a perception that wealthy and educated people are more resilient to it, which I don’t think is actually true!

2 family friends of my parents, a female former BBC journalist and a male KC went down the GC rabbit hole over the pandemic.

That has also translated to a bunch of very weird opinions including recently defending the Tommy Robinson march from the latter (despite him being Black)

If Reform's current polling shows anything, and again it is way too early to be making genuine predictions about the next General Election, it is that a third, or fourth, party can make feasible grounds to potentially win even under FPTP. It definitely isn't an argument to suck it up with Labour. 2/

Things being as they are, and the near impossibility of predicting a General Election result this far out, I do find it vaguely amusing seeing certain people arguing that no matter what heinous thing Labour does people have to vote for them to beat Reform as "we live in a two party system". 1/

Howling at this. As much as they’ve “won” I do feel vaguely sorry for the actually left wing GCs - they’re now stuck with the right wing fruit loops knowing full well they’re no longer welcome on the progressive left.

On the other hand - enjoy the bed you’ve made for yourselves huns!

Apparently actual fighting broke out at the Filia conference. Pro-Palestine vs Pro-Israel inter-terf violence. Blimey.
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
The “by you” bit is a nice touch - like you specifically are twisting their arm as they fill out their answers
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
I didn’t condemn - I questioned the tactics. I am trans myself, you don’t need to tell me how bleak things are.

Like even the Greens moderate stance is a hard sell for a lot of people - and realistically we just aren’t leaving NATO any time soon.

Why is YP barely talking about economic inequality? Workers rights? The climate crisis? I know it’s early days but still…
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
I realise I risk outing myself as a terrible wet wipe (lol) but I honestly couldn’t see anything sillier than making leaving NATO the USP of a new left movement. Of all the things to spend political capital on, in a post Ukraine invasion world it seems.
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
Yes I completely agree and I’m not against it in principle just worry a bit re this one as per: bsky.app/profile/eliz...
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
It’s not a matter of direct action vs not - it’s also about specific optics of smashing windows of “feminist conference”.

“Women’s safety” has been used as key justification for rolling back our rights. And lots of the fence sitters who we most have to persuade are most sympathetic to that
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
Narrative - I question the utility of this specific action in that context. Beyond that I think we’ll have to agree to disagree

Well s28 was one part of the broader LGBT movement yes but the GRA etc was the direct result of extensive legal cases painstaking lobbying and campaigning.

And I think BBC break in is a great strategic stunt - didn’t involve smashing stuff. I’m not against direct action per se but there is nuance
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
Fair point. I think seeing the blowback to the Palestine protests has concerned me particularly. But I’m probably being overly cautious - I’m very wary of any kind of street violence because i fear in the end it’s usually the vulnerable who pay the price.
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
also we did secure a lot of rights for trans people in the UK…. Via Press for Change doing literally decades of lobbying, national campaigns by people like Caroline Cossey and multiple international legal cases ending in Goodwin.

About the excuse this gives them. I do take your point re coverage. It’s a hard one, and like I say I don’t really blame or wish to castigate anyone.

But I do have significant reservations re the longer term ramifications.
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
I think it’s a complex question and I do see what you’re saying. I can’t help but notice that the GCs seem if anything thrilled with this. They are already writing and @mps about how they’re “worried about what TRAs will do next”.

We see what this gov is doing torwads protest, I’m concerned
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
Yes I think this stuff is probably inevitable it just fills me with foreboding.

We have tried to pull every democratic lever available and it’s not working so while it’s not my preferred method I won’t castigate anyone.
elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social
I realise this is a bit controversial in this parts but I’m really struggling to understand the utility of this.

I am hugely sympathetic to the anger people feel, but I feel it does nothing but feed their nonsense narrative. And puts the community at risk of further crackdowns

BREAKING: BASH BACK TARGET FiLiA ANTI-TRANS CONFERENCE

The conference, whose alumni include J.K. Rowling, this year hosts hate groups LGBAlliance and Transgender Trend, along with the director of Scottish Lesbians, one of the groups responsible for April's segregationist Supreme Court ruling.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
