Another way to understand ICE policy is as climate policy. The reactive kind instead of proactive. It's a violent answer to how our collective failures to do enough to prevent climate crises from happening manifest.

“I think that in a lot of cases, the public, legislators, governors are not aware of just how high the stakes are right now” - @dave.bzky.team @climatecabinet.org

In Illinois, we’ve got 2 weeks to raise those stakes and get transit funding across the finish line - lfg

We can slow & fight the existing terrors of the world, while making real steps towards the beautiful future we know we can build—one in which a destabilized climate is unfortunately a central fact, but so is our willingness to work together and to care for one another and the ecologies we depend on.

The one-two-three punch of pandemic/genocide/fascism has dispersed energies for now—understandably! We fight for climate justice because we love the world; we can't ignore tanks rolling into Gaza/DC/Chicago. But we do all our work with a broader vision in which a living, thriving Earth is central.

of treating (some) humans & the rest of life as expendable—letting fossil fuel (& deforestation, & animal agriculture) pollution devastate them. If everyone had stopped doing that when it became clear how dire the consequences were, then "climate change" would have largely taken care of itself.

The movement isn't just 350, SunDay, Fridays for Future, Sunrise. It's pipeline fighters in the Gulf South; urbanists in Seattle fighting for dense, climate-friendly, affordable housing; folks working on battery chemistry & sustainable building materials; folks in Memphis fighting xAI's data center;

This is a thoughtful piece on the fatigue & uncertainty of the climate movement in this era, but I have...thoughts.

The movement is so broad & deep; I wish the reporter had gone further afield, & gotten more perspectives, which might have provided a much clearer vision of where we are. 🧵

Congratulations @jeffsseidman.bsky.social! Big local climate win on battery storage 🔋 in upstate NY
1/x 🧵 🔌💡 #Greensky. Hey climate peeps! Here’s a local victory to celebrate, and some lessons from it. Last night, the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY, voted to overturn its 18-month moratorium (6 months, renewed twice) on grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).

9) We talked, for instance, about how in Texas batteries have helped tame crazy power price spikes at times of grid stress, and helped reliability. (We had crazy prices spikes in NY during the June heatwave.) The choice of Texas as an example was deliberate.
