There are so many things I want to say, but above all: thank you.

Thank you for showing up. For canvassing all over the region and attending town halls. For marching with us. For calling and emailing your legislators in droves, and phone banking at a last minute’s notice.

We did this together. 🥹💙🚍

The family of Bethany MaGee, the CTA burn victim who was heinously attacked, has launched a GoFundMe with a statement asking for privacy. "She loves living in Chicago, and her gentle spirit makes her a favorite with every pet she meets."

Another departure from MBJ, who gave folks 3 months after inauguration to “test the waters” in which instead he iced out all the good folks who then of course left on their own accord.

And for whom none he had replacements ready.
It is typical for new administrations to clear out political appointees who served the prior mayor, though it is not always done with as much lead time or so extensively. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/25/n...

Trump not knowing that groceries is still indeed a commonly used term in 2025 (because he’s likely never been grocery shopping in his life) is perhaps his most Lucille Bluth moment.

Since Bovino left it seems every day or every other day I hear of someone abducted by ICE agents. It’s slower, less flashy, but still happening.
“Rey Wences, senior director of deportation defense at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, noted that “abductions” continue happening “every day in both the city and the suburbs.”

DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Americans are *begging* for high speed rail but this freak is too busy moralizing over people wearing sweats on airplanes.

Because god forbid you be comfortable while using the most miserable form of transportation.
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

Marimar Martinez is a US citizen who was shot by ICE five times in Chicago.

She was then arrested, labelled a “domestic terrorist” and slandered on social media.

All charges against her have been dropped.

In this interview she shows on of the seven holes the ICE agent put in her body.

Good thing MBJ’s budget proposes cutting consent decree positions while also increasing the overall police budget.
The increase in the number of times Chicago police officers have used force against Chicagoans since 2022 threatens the effort to reform the Chicago Police Department, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office told a federal judge on Tuesday. https://to.wttw.com/4poSZrL

Federal agents used chemical weapons on Chicagoans at least 49 times — even after a judge said to stop.

Contrary to federal claims about attacks on agents, most of these incidents appear to involve nonviolent protesters or bystanders. blockclubchi.co/47PoaXb

The city plans to continue to sweep northwest side encampments, but there's no emergency shelter in that area for single unhoused Chicagoans to go to. A tentative city-state partnership is looking to change that. I wrote about it for week's Make it Make Sense:

Just after saying he'll veto any budget that makes cuts to the cops, who have repeatedly overspent the budget and cost the city over 1.5 billion in abuse lawsuits since 2000 (and twice the library budget this year alone).
Johnson tries to reframe the debate over the budget after suffering a very public defeat at the hands of the Finance Committee:

"It's working people or its the ultra rich. That's it."

Folks like myself have been plenty critical of this administration, just like I’m critical of alders who when push comes to shove run the other direction.

Organizing takes many different forms. Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s unseen.

But votes are always on the record.
I love people talking progressive who were crickets when this administration was proposing encampments on toxic land, gardaworld, and evicting undocumented people from shelter during the winter.

This is the same man who joined the chorus of moderates worried about “liability” of plowing sidewalks, alluded to police misconduct as a validator of that concern, suggested that HE get the money from the program to buy his own plow instead — and then didn’t vote.

With “socialists” like these.
Now now, we aren’t supposed to think, question, or argue because the “progressive” Mayor said it.

Just keep saying anyone who is against this budget doesn’t want to tax the rich and isn’t progressive.

At least that’s what some want to have folks believe, right?
So we won't plow our sidewalks cause of "liability concerns" but we'll keep letting the police wreak havoc on our city, our people, our civil liberties, and our finances??
