Introverts need to be marginalized again, and I’m not even joking

There’s never been a ‘realism’ mod for any game that actually made it more fun to play, in any genre

Change my mind

I love the "it's realistic.. Real life is brutal that is why you starve to death if you don't eat an entire roast chicken every 15 minutes" as a gaming philosophy.

Nobody who chooses to live in New Hampshire should be allowed to tell anyone how to do anything
emperorholly.bsky.social
This sounds mean and I absolutely intend it to be, but the internet‘s validation of introversion was an epochal disaster for society at large.
Go outside and make some friends, you nerds.

Relatedly, I recall a lot of "the joy of canceling plans" jokes and memes from the 2010s and now folks are talking about a loneliness epidemic, and, well...

People will scoff at virtue signaling and then wonder why today’s billionaires don’t build museums, libraries, hospitals, and universities like Gilded Age ones did.

If you refused to support Harris to "stop genocide," congratulations, you did genocide.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

You do not, in fact, ‘gotta hand it to’ any Avellone self-insert character

‘Deeply incurious’ is the expected default state of mind for everyone who writes for or regularly read Current Affairs

the thing about woke 2 is that it’s coming
emperorholly.bsky.social
And no matter how ‘cringey’ it seems, it will always be more sincere and profound than any deliberately ‘Revolutionary’ work. People like to make things meaningful for themselves, only maladjusted freaks actually like being propagandized.

If these orgs were smart (they’re not) and really wanted to have their cake and eat it, I could see hiring someone like Weiss and putting them in a figurehead role to placate the administration but continuing business as usual. Unfortunately, businessmen are *really fucking bad at business*

The simplest way to end protests against ICE would be for this administration to stop kidnapping people off the street, and that is often left out of coverage of these National Guard deployments

Shit like this is why I’m getting polarized into believing that the ‘white working class’ actually needs to be *punished* instead of sucked up to

My only contribution to The Discourse is that nobody on Bluesky should talk about children in any context unless they’re sharing a funny anecdote

Y’all are Weird About Kids on here

Considering that every time Obi-Wan has gone into a bar, someone has gotten hurt, you could make a compelling argument for Darth Shitfaced
emperorholly.bsky.social
I’m pre-emptively getting sad thinking about how broken a man Obi-Wan would have to be to fall to the Dark Side
emperorholly.bsky.social
…anyway, I’m having a slow work day today, could you tell?

Anakin Skywaker becomes Chancellor-for-Life and the Republic fully becomes a military dictatorship. Propaganda embraces him as ‘the Chosen One’ and embodiment of the Force’s will.

Through back channels with the Hutts, the Republic enters an alliance with Maul’s cartels
emperorholly.bsky.social
Unwilling to further militarize, the Jedi Order formally withdraws from the Republic. Anakin’s loyalists begin to form their own mystical order, loyal to the Chancellor.

The Jedi are welcomed by a small network of neutral systems, hoping to remain outside of the great powers’ influence.
emperorholly.bsky.social
After a few years, an uneasy white peace is signed, dividing the galaxy into two major power blocs and Maul’s alliance as a weaker kingmaker.

The Republic populace is more sympathetic to Anakin’s revanchist faction than the Jedi, and he will eventually become Chancellor a few years later
emperorholly.bsky.social
If Maul returns (and let’s be honest, it’s way more fun if he does), a third faction enters the fray after he unites the crime lords under his banner in opposition to both the Republic and Separatists
emperorholly.bsky.social
Anakin becomes a rallying figure for those Jedi, leading to him and his supporters leaving the order but retaining their military commission. To maintain a united front, the Jedi publicly accept this but now there’s a power struggle within the Republic

Dooku fights the war in earnest, taking on an official Sith Apprentice- he may even decide to abandon the Rule of Two entirely and bring his new Sith Order out into the open

The Republic fights a harder war, leading to some younger Jedi getting increasingly aggravated at the Order’s restrictions

oh god, I’m suddenly having flashbacks to a Chinese cinema class I took in college where we watched an (otherwise very good!) film that had a drawn-put sequence with a sweeping, dramatic orchestral score accompanying… the protagonists filling out paperwork to join the Communist Party
emperorholly.bsky.social
People would still complain about that ‘not being given enough focus’, because everyone knows that watching Bruce write checks and work at the soup kitchen is what people want to see in an adventure comic
emperorholly.bsky.social
The overlap between ‘people who complain about superheroes maintaining the status quo’ and ‘people who would become blackshirts to the first dictator who pays lip service to their pet causes’ is not a circle, but surprisingly close to one
