yep. also really can't overstate how much nuzzi is very much the product of an environment that rewards amoral ambition and frowns on people who sincerely believe anything

One of the reasons I don't fear Vance is that he's too fucking weird to develop a cult of personality.

That's what makes this dicey for the MAGAs. They rave a lot about how Biden "betrayed" Afghanistan (even though Trump set up the withdrawal) & for one of the people they valorized (& who Trump granted asylum earlier this year!) to do this is causing brain freeze in their lead propagandists.

When our kid of the MRCA chose this branch instead of the bonobos' they really chose poorly.
The power of these female coalitions is one of the main mechanisms that reverses the power dynamics between the sexes within bonobo groups...When female bonobos form aggressive alliances to exert social control over males, they demonstrate that power can be derived...from social support.
“Infanticide is a common male strategy in many species to ensure reproductive success… Bonobo females, however, have managed to reverse this trend, which chimpanzees do, thanks to an unusual cooperation between them…

Aggression against infants…almost always provokes retaliation from the females”

I know most of the focus is on RFK Jr.'s weird horny texts, but the news that he used to spam Bill Nye with anti-vax weirdness and Bill was like, "Dude, you're you're confusing correlation for causation" is the only RFK text-message news I will ever need.

My guess is that it's probably mostly true, though shaded as negatively as possible. But it could just be lies. Problem is that Nuzzi has burned her presumption of innocence.
I don't know what — or really, if anything — in Lizza's account is true, because I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. If *any* of it is true, the fact that we are only hearing about it now, after the fact, to drive subscriptions to his paywalled private newsletter, is frankly vile!

No shade on Olivia here, but a lot of us have been jumping up and down for two decades about byas towards conservative narratives, access journalism, and the end of ombudsmen and public editors and told less than politely by journalists "STFU plebes"

And we feel very vindicated
this was bad before, but these are the most troubling and serious allegations you can make about a journalist. if they’re true, i genuinely can’t think of a worse scandal in the history of political journalism. devastating to our industry, to public trust as a whole, and to everyone in its orbit

The whole chain restaurant food experience was built on low wage workers and cheap food products that could be standardized and provide something slightly better than a gas station and a relief from cooking.

Also these are people at the heights of the industry, and both Nuzzi and Lizza were almost instantly rehabilitated by top media companies after a first round of scandals that should have made them radioactive. Now lo and behold, much bigger shoes to drop, and we probably haven't seen the last of it.
The reason that we reporters are focused so intensely on the L'affair Nuzzi is that, as Olivia notes, it is a basically apocalyptic scandal in the most literal sense of that term: a dropping of masks. It's acting as confirmation of every hideous story anybody's ever told about political journalists

I just rewatched SHATTERED GLASS (and reread the article, which being by Buzz Bissinger is great) and it's really a portrayal of a very specific moment - that brief period when people didn't realize that the internet let everyone factcheck, but before rampant shamelessness.
Honestly the combination of the alleged source betrayals and secret recordings and the way this has rolled out has just fundamentally fucked us all in a way that’s bigger than the Stephen Glass scandal by a significant margin, and I think everyone is grappling with that in real time
