I think Mamdani’s election threw this into the sharpest relief for me. He upset expectations (in part due to some strategizing with Lander), and the Democratic reaction was to continue attacking him in the general, AS THEIR CANDIDATE. No significant censuring of Cuomo for running as a spoiler.

The primary difference is that GRRM's source material is some of the most ardently misogynist crap I've read in mainstream publishing (in a very different, uglier way than GOT), and the tv series is decent.

As a gender studies scholar, I am glad that so many ppl keep pointing out the significance of gender (& specifically, white evangelical masculinity) to all these various strands of violence and hatred. EVERYTHING IS GENDER & RACE.
Once again gender studies comes into play - most dangerous time for an abused spouse is when they are trying to leave.
Just guessing here, but I suspect the White House is pushing so hard for wars of conquest on multiple fronts because they see their support collapsing ahead of the midterms and worry they won't get another shot. An example of how tyrants become more dangerous as they get weaker, not less.
