A lot of previous (and even relatively recent) publications are why I believe BT desperately needs a sensitivity reading team in action, and to go through the back cataloge and tag them with the necessary CWs

There's also quite a few books that REALLY need to have content warning pages in the newer printings

Because...yeesh, there's a lot of really heavy topics that are either badly handled or shouldn't come without warnings

There's tons of books out there that really flesh out a lot of the really vague/memefied lore

The Founding of the Clans series is perfect if you want a why/how/what the clans are without it sounding cartoonish

& the Rogue Academy books are a great look at how the bigger story affects young people

To me the Dark Age started with Ghost war and ended with Voidbreaker, it wasn't till the lights started turning on again that it really felt like we'd entered a new era

I'm grateful that between you and Bryan you got to give that era a proper beginning, and a fitting end

That is honestly a perfect intro then a how we got to the current moment & wraps the dark age up nicely

I tried going back to the Gray Death trilogy and, oh boy, they do not hold up well in a modern perspective

I know that those were a time when the narrative direction was finding its feet but these days I would much rather Ghost War or Fox Tales as a starter

It's also the standard for which I compare sexuality to be present in BattletTech in a way that I've yet to see for LGBTQIA+ representation

i.e. when we get a story that has queer characters implied to have been doing it on a train we'll be approaching some level of normalisation 😂

I'm honestly really grateful to have started my BT lore journey with Ghost War

It on-ramped me very nicely to a lot of the weirdness and intrigue of BattleTech. Of how the stories could ebb and flow as the narrative changed

Fun stories, fun action, fun characters, a great way to get acquainted

It's a damn good starter book in all the best ways
Accessible, a good primer for a general what is going on, very ground level & emotional, and a great example of BT being about the people not the 'Mechs

We've seen a real rise in folks getting into BT over the last few years because of Fox Tales

It was my first BT book too, all those years back
Think at the time I was utterly obsessed with MW4:Mercs and then saw Ghost War in a local bookshop and went "shit, they make books about this??"

The rest is history

BRNO Transit, The Legend of Khiimori, Relooted, Shadows of Afterland, & Laugh Track are all up there as ones I'd absolutely recommend

There's so damn much in there though, even after you ignore all the ones with gen"ai" in them. So many to try!

There's no "I know how to do this" setting, so you can't just move from exercise to exercise without pretty much doing full body resets

I’m very very tired of “living in fear” being lobbed at maskwearers by people who frequently say they can’t wear one because no one else around them is.

Living in fear is ignoring science and endangering lives and your own health because you’re terrified of not fitting in.
