This odd feelingnof melancholy is aided by the fact that a great majority of the npc interactions in the monastery boil down to questions of whether Byleth is still the same person she was before, or if something has fundamentally changed that she'll never get back

This is most easily identifiable with Dimitri being nearly about to snap and Hubert's ominous disappearance during Black Eagles. And then of course there's THE scene with Edelgard's coronation, with her straight up telling the player that this may be the last time they see each other

But beyond that, there's this odd air of uncomfortable finality to this chapter. Of course, in repeat playthroughs you know this is the last one before the war starts. But even discarding that, there's this inescapable tension provided in great part by your lord's position at this point of the story

Big fan of "Broken Routine" still playing in chapter 11. Jeralt may have been avenged, but he's still gone. On top of that, you've also lost Sothis — the first face that greets you in the entire game. An inescapable fact, since Byleth's ascension that is the talk of town is because of her sacrifice.

Contrast that to Seteth, who almost pays no mind to the fact Byleth may house his actual mother (or relative at the very least) and instead is more concern with Byleth as an individual and how she will react to the truth, offering his unwavering support in her journey of self-discovery

Getting Seteth and Rhea's B and A supports back-to-back really shines a light on how different they truly are. Rhea is wistful and overjoyed at Byleth becoming what she wants her to be. When asked about 'the truth,' she expresses that it will come naturally. She is hands-off by nature

Chapter 11 gets to the point and gives us unprecedented tension between Seteth and Rhea as he begins to realize the truth behind Rhea's involvement with Byleth. This, coupled with the premise of a mission to hear the Goddess' voice establishes this chapter's tone quite well. It's the final crescendo

I'll say it: I think its rly annoying and frankly amateurish that writers are constantly told their villains must be understandable or have sympathetic motivation to be interesting or realistic when all our big villains irl are in fact rich, stupid, selfish, trickster dillweeds and always have been

I find it funny how Xenosaga & Xenoblade went through similar art style backlash. 1st game with not necessarily the best models but it stands out. 2nd game where "it's too realistic/anime" (complete opposite complaint lol). Final mixes style traits & is generally liked the most.
