Junior Research Fellowship at Oxford on Virtue Ethics commencing in January 2026! Looks like a great opportunity for a recent grad student or early postdoc working on virtue.

Daily Hume quote: "Good and ill are universally intermingled and confounded; happiness and misery, wisdom and folly, virtue and vice. Nothing is pure and entirely of a piece."

Wonderful symposium session on #MaryMidgley at @thebshp.bsky.social annual conference. Firstly the brilliant @philosophellie.bsky.social #SophiaConnell on Midgley’s Zoological approach to Aristotle’s Ethics. Followed by equally fantastic @enricogalvagni.bsky.social on Hume & Midgley on the study 1/2

Incredible that Kant could only think of three things to critique

I’m organizing a conference for philosophy graduate students—The 14th Annual Arché Graduate Conference! This will be a great opportunity for students to present their work, network, and spend some time on the charming Scottish coastal town, St Andrews! Please share with your network. #philsky

My “philosophical methodology” is to stare out of the window and hope desperately that something occurs to me
A photo of my office. In the background, out of the window, you can see Arthur’s Seat and the Salisbury Crags, while in the foreground there’s my desk with a large computer monitor and a stack of books with one called “Philosophical Methodology’ on top.

I’ve been looking at some biographical material of the founders of modern physics and it’s striking how much attention they paid to philosophy: Bohr was obsessed with Kierkegaard and his followers, Einstein read Kant. Heisenberg read Plato's Timaeus.

I wrote something that I actually find philosophically satisfying. Now let's see how it gets rejected by every possible journal out there.

I'm halfway through a sabbatical dedicated to writing a book based on my yearly interviews with Mary Midgley from 2011-18 for @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social.

I'm curious about which topics people are most interested in? Feel free to DM!
