This is the dumbest thing I've read in 2 years. Apparently praying to invisible being who never answers your prayers is a magical cure for depression, insecurity, thanatophobia, rage, and "ego" (as if that needs cured?). Prayer has been linked to suicide risk: 🔗 pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

"Once A Man Was Asked, “What Did You Gain By Regularly Praying To God?” The man replied ‘nothing…but let me tell you what I lost: anger, ego, greed, depression, insecurity, and fear of death.'
Sometimes, the answer to our prayers is not gaining, but losing; which ultimately is the gain."

While religion may lower suicide risks, prayer has been linked to higher suicide risks (see next slides, taken from same article).

It's a future-based book set in years after 2040. We, as humans, have conquered everything. Even death. So to keep from overpopulation, there is this group of people called Scythes who go around and "glean" people. It's a very good book! :)
