The government is in full shutdown and the Republicans are refusing to call the House back into session.

Want to know why?

Because we have secured the final vote on releasing the Epstein Files and they don’t want it out.

Call GOP and tell them to swear in @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social.

Glad to see Nigel Farage has finally remembered Nathan Gill, former leader of Reform in Wales - found guilty of taking bribes from Russia.

Maybe he'll now remember how much he took from Putin's propaganda broadcaster Russia Today for all his TV appearances when he was a MEP?

Farage/Reform and the Trump playbook.

Mass sackings of unsympathetic civil servants
Promise to reduce workers's rights
Inflict spending cuts - hit the poor, old, sick, disabled

Now claims teachers are “poisoning our kids” - just as Nazis did to control education.

Power grab by dividing society.

I can't wait for Albania, Bosnia+Herzegovina,Georgia,Moldova,Montenegro,N. Macedonia,Serbia, and Ukraine - now recognised as candidates for membership of 🇪🇺, to become full M/Ss.
All of them have suffered long enough under awful regimes.
In time, I wish Russia could also become a democracy and join 🇪🇺.

I can agree with this 🙂
What's missing though is "why".
Why commit to a Europe-facing direction of travel? That needs explaining too. I'm listening (I'm a nobody...), more critically I'm sure EU institutions are listening. And we are not hearing anything. This is what I believe Kathy was saying ⬆️.

This includes the rights of Trans-persons and ethnic minorities, incl. asylum seekers+immigrants. I don't like Starmer's xenophobic rhetoric.
But there's nothing to indicate 🇬🇧 would fundamentally cease to be a democracy in the immediate future (it may well change if Re-FUK win the next GE...) 2/2
er2023.bsky.social
I wouldn't say that, or equate whatever happens in 🇬🇧 with 🇺🇸 right now.
I don't like Starmer, he is a huge waste of opportunity and hopes. I don't like that he is restricting the right to protest or threatening the rights of minorities. 1/2

Contrary to what many Britons claimed in 2016,🇪🇺is a democratic institution which respects each ctry's sovereignty.
The 1st step is for the violent, destructive neighbour to stop interfering w/ Georgia+Ukraine.
This⬇️gives me hope the accession process can then be accelerated.

Once again, the people of Moldova made their voice heard: they chose Europe.

We heard them loud and clear.

In Copenhagen today, we discussed with Maia Sandu how we can speed up progress towards the European future that Moldovans voted for.

Almost 10 years after #EURef2016 , Britons still haven't worked out what 🇪🇺 is about, or what relationship they want with their neighbours. They need more time out to work it out... 4/4
er2023.bsky.social
Based on what Britons say, the only thing 🇪🇺 represents to a majority (not all...) of alleged pro-EU Britons (let alone Britons in general...) is a market to recover their lost GDP, and the freedom to get their annual dose of sun by staying on the Costas for as long as they want to. 3/n

Georgia and Ukraine aspire to join 🇪🇺 for a reason (or reasons). 🇪🇺 represents something for them, an answer to their aspirations as peoples. 2/n
er2023.bsky.social
Why should it make you sad?
What makes me sad is that both Georgia and Ukraine (and other European countries on the Eastern side of Europe) can't decide of the future they want for themselves because they have a tyrannical, belligerent if not genocidal neighbour with a maniac as head of State. 1/n

This is what is often missed, harsher immigration policies lead to more homelessness. Labour's reduction of the move on period for refugees, extending visa routes etc etc will cause more homelessness. It's an inevitable outcome, which then feeds the far right narrative of migrants being a "burden".
bigissue.com
Homelessness will remain a prevalent issue in the UK as long as the government fails to recognise the link between it and immigration laws
Labour must recognise the link between homelessness and immigration

I have to say that I see nothing in the UK that remotely resembles the passionate dedication to Europe that is being shown daily by the astonishingly brave and determined people of Georgia and Ukraine.

Greens growing. Reform ratttled.

PS - I changed my name back to my family's original Jewish name because I'm proud of being Jewish. If Tice think that makes me a weirdo, I think that makes him an antisemite.

Tice "green party leader Zack Polanski is a weirdo. Changed his name, claimed hypnosis could increase women's breast size, thinks me should compete in women's sport, thinks women can have a penis. Other than that he's fine. Vote Green. Get weirdo."

SM membership would in all cases involve a much wider-ranging set of legal obligations than most people realise, which would need time to adopt and implement. So it’s possible but not quick or easy.

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

There's no culture of coalitions in 🇫🇷 (or in 🇬🇧) - accepting compromises so that everyone gets *some* of what they want. GE 2024 resulted in a hung Parliament, with no overall majority for any one party, which hardly ever (if ever) happened in the past. Which is partly why🇫🇷 is in this mess. 4/4
er2023.bsky.social
Please correct me if I'm wrong: there's a dose of PR in elections in Germany, whereby 50% Abgeordneten are elected on a PR system. This means there's hardly ever (if ever) an overall majority in Bundestag and parties have long been used to building coalitions (for years, FDP was the "kingmaker").3/n
