I have yet to find anything ai can do for me that robust user forums and a good search engine didn’t do just as well or better before tech bros and ai turned the internet into trash.

I get asked how I can code or write or run marathons and the answer is I did the work. No shortcuts. I failed. I tried again. I got better. Still fail sometimes. I keep at it. This is not
magic. This is *learning* and I hate that these impatient capitalist tech fools convinced people that was bad.

I know I am a real Old Fashioned Curmudgeon but I swear to god, if you put in the time to learn skills you get better at them. Maybe initially using genAI is faster but once you develop competency you can run laps around that crap and do stuff well beyond the prompts you can think up now.

I get a message with a question about why a particular query isn’t producing expected results and I gave it 30 seconds thought and suggested basic troubleshooting to solve but nope. “I’ll just as the robot lol” This is why I am faster and better across the board. I *learn* stuff instead of using AI.

It’s been quite remarkable watching previously competent developers get worse at their jobs and atrophy their critical thinking skills because they turn to ChatGPT as soon as they encounter even the most basic challenge. Just enthusiastically becoming obsolete. This is how you make an Idiocracy.

You know, having an abnormally keen sense of smell is a real liability when the most pungent lotion and perfume cohort comes into the office. I respect most personal grooming choices, but I am considerably less tolerant of the overwhelming smell of radioactive headache peaches.

It’s October! Time for 31 days of horror recommendations. In the past I’ve just done movies, but this year I’m branching out. Movies, books, video games, any kind of horror media. Not everything on this list will be good, but I’m confident that everything will be interesting.

My email is not hard to guess and I share it pretty readily but I would still love it if conventions that invite me to be a panelist didn’t share it on their public website (or email it out to attendees) without asking. My spam folder is doing fine without the help, I assure you.
