Excellent piece on why the Air Canada strike took Carney by surprise, and why labour dissent is in our DNA by Jen Hassum from @broadbent.bsky.social.

Really worth reading to understand the significance of this week’s labour victory.
ricochetmedia.bsky.social
The Air Canada flight attendant strike was illegal. It was also profoundly Canadian.

As Jen ‪Hassum explains in a new column, Canada’s democracy depends on defiance, not obedience.

Congratulations to Air Canada flight attendants, who have a deal that will end unpaid work.

Clearly, AC was waiting for the government to force them back, and once the union defied the order a deal was quickly reached.

This is why back to work orders are a betrayal of collective bargaining.

That sucks. I’m sorry. 😢

When we look at resource extraction & climate change, this new gold trample (Bill 5 & Bill C-5), let's chew the narrative: who is this story about? Whose prosperity are we centring? Who's actually facing existential crisis?
How do you identify with the root – the human element of the politic?
